I grew up in North Carolina, and was a big Hornets fan until they moved to New Orleans.
Since 2002, I really haven't cared at all about the NBA. I have even made conscious efforts to know as little as possible about the league, as I just didn't care anymore.
Now, I'm wanting to reenter the league as a fan. My only dilemma is that I can't decide which team to follow. I at least know that I'm choosing between two teams. Memphis and Charlotte.
I visit Charlotte every year for Panthers games, and I listen to Charlotte sports radio quite often. That could be an easy transition. Also, I really like Larry Brown.
My wife's family is from Memphis, so we head out that way a bunch, too. All of her family members are Grizzlies fans, and they always try to get me to jump on board as a Memphis fan. I do like that their games are on TV here in east TN.
I don't have the patience to passionately follow two teams, so I need to just pick one and be done with it.

My question to you is, who should I pick and why?

I want a team that I'll actually go to watch every once in a while. There is little to know chance that I'll ever go to a Lakers game in Los Angeles.

I would say the Hawks then. They have a solid core and should be good for awhile. The Thunder or Bobcats probably wouldn't be bad choices either.

My pick would be Charlotte. Still on the up and up, 2nd or 3rd closest franchise to the Knoxville area. They appear to be headed in the right direction.

Memphis would be a bad choice IMO mainly because they're in the Western Conference, where you need to look like a sure-fire 50 win team heading into the season to even sniff a playoff berth. No cinderellas out here, only the franchises with great ownership on down will have any success. Out east, even the underdogs can go out and win a first round series from time to time.

I cant get into the Grizzles. I grew up a Houston Rockets fan for a reason that I don't remember since I randomly decided to start liking them when I was like 6. I tried to change but my loyalties are still to the Rockets and I could care less about the Grizzles so I guess Houston it is.

I can't pick the Hawks simply because of my extreme hatred for the Falcons. Not that one sport has anything to do with the other, but still, it would just feel weird to support an Atlanta sports team other than simply pulling for Georgia Tech to beat Duke or North Carolina.
After considering my two options, I'm really wanting to pick Charlotte, but I just hate that it will be so hard to see their games. Memphis games come on TV all the time.

I like the Golden State Warriors. But you should probably just say "no" to that mess. Exciting to watch, though.

Memphis

If you're 50/50 on which team to pick than Memphis would be appealing because they do play on TV plus it's always good to have a common interest with your in-laws.

I watched several Memphis games this season since I always had them on TV, and then I was able to watch the Bobcats last night. I really like Larry Brown, and the way his team plays. I think I'm going to pledge my allegiance to Charlotte's NBA team once again. I do wish it were easier to watch their games in TN, but I'll figure something out. I'm sure I'll still watch the Grizzlies, and I might even make it to a game or two sometime soon in Memphis, but from hence forth, I feel like I've got a team to call my own again...the Charlotte Bobcats/Flight/Whatever their name will be next season.
I do think they'll get a game or two on Orlando. Should be a fun series.

Cool. It's a lot easier to jump on board with a young team in the east. Decent chance to break through.

If you need a western conference team, plenty of room on this Blazers bandwagon.

As for watching their games, just get whatever NBA package your cable provider has.

I see how it is, don't come jumping on the Memphis bandwagon when they're winning all those championships. :p

This is worse than Selby choosing Kansas.
