As I am understanding a quote from CTJ on TOS Neal is not willing to be a return man and has either not participated or not given 100%. Reading between the lines it would seem to indicate a cause for why he's not been featured much besides his being banged up. Not saying he'd have made a difference but he's seemingly not taking full advantage of his other opportunities to see the field.

Edit: it was Eric Russell so forgive me saying CTJ but below are his quoted words for those assuming I am making stuff up.

"If Rajion wants to be he could be," special teams coordinator Eric Russell said. "Right now I don't know what Rajion wants to do. I think he's got the tools. I think he's got the ability (but) special teams haven't been very high on his priority list."

"There's no question," Russell said. "We've asked him. We've tried. Right now he can't do it."

hmm .. wondering if it might be a bit of "seeing the writing on the wall" .. with lane and tom smith at RB .. and our stable of WR's he might realize his PT is going to be real limited, so he is not as invested as he should be

This has the ring of misinformation to it. The coaches have never indicated any problems with Neal that I've ever seen/read. Bye week gossip?

He's the fastest RB we have, and it would make sense to try him on returns. However, if he has refused to take that opportunity, this doesn't bode well for him ending his career at UT. Plus, he thought he'd be the no. 2 RB, and Lane beat him out. Maybe that's given him an attitude. If he doesn't watch out, Devrin might move past him as our all purpose RB.

Not saying it's not true, but I think it is highly unlikely. He returned in High School and he is a competitor. I love my VOLS but VOL fans are the quickest to turn on one of their own! Bama, Gators etc will defend there own to the death. I know 3 weeks ago you could go to any message board and Marlin Lane was the "REAL DEAL" now many are saying he isn't the answer. It is discouraging.

Well, something has not been right with Neal since the beginning of the season. He featured so much as a freshman, something has happened in the off-season - something more than just being banged up.

BAMA and GATOR fans defend theirs to the death because their PLAYERS WIN! Not even a fair comparison.

I don't buy for a second that any skill player in the history of the sport is turning down opportunities to get meaningful touches, unless they are mop-up duty, no-chance-at-ever-meaningfully-contributing-touches like the ones Kiffin offered Poole.

Link please...Otherwise this thread is completely absurd.

Didn't he have issues last year where his head wasn't in the game? Maybe he's just unhappy here.

This was the meat of the excerpt I was referring to:

Neal showed some potential as a return specialist last fall but apparently does not wish to be an option for that role this fall.

"If Rajion wants to be he could be," special teams coordinator Eric Russell said. "Right now I don't know what Rajion wants to do. I think he's got the tools. I think he's got the ability (but) special teams haven't been very high on his priority list."

That's a shame because Neal seems to possess all of the skills you look for in a kickoff return man.

"There's no question," Russell said. "We've asked him. We've tried. Right now he can't do it."

Neal wasn't bet out of anything.
