Go ahead and have your prediction...

I predict we do not lose a single scholarship and we are not banned from postseason play.

They will not find a lack of institutional control and the punishment dealt by the University will be deemed significant.

This is not a bag of cash to a recruit or a family member.

This is excessive texts...

Yeah, it's not like Bruce lied to the NCAA. The NCAA doesn't mind if you lie to them, they just let it go.

I can see a lack of institutional control for sure, take in account everything that ha happened over the last years or so...the AD could get hit hard.

Jacqui Pearl will serve a two year ban during which time she will not be permitted to sing the National Anthem before UT home basketball games. She will also not be allowed to sing along with whomever does sing the National Anthem if the game is nationally televised.

After the harsh penalties by Hamilton I would be surprised if it's more.

You got to go by precedent and precedent is that Sampson did it multiple times before getting hit hard. Indiana still could play in postseason when he resigned.

This is Pearls first and unless Hamilton is lying which I doubt he can in this scenario then Bruce really did correct himself without knowing the NCAA would even find out about it.

I see loss of scholarship. Mcnair did worse at USC and just couldn't recruit off campus for a year and the NCAA said he lied. Yes USC got punished but it was because of a lot more than phone calls.

So the NCAA would have to basically say that due to a lie that was corrected without pressure from them that illegal phone calls for the first time will keep a team with all eligible players out of the postseason.I don't think they wont to go there.

By the way, I think that everyone knows that there is cheating going on everywhere, if you don't, it is past your bedtime.

Lying is the problem.

I think the NCAA will take big note of the fine BP got smacked with. That alone, IMO, will save UT from LOIC. I don't know if it will save hem from loss of scholarships. I really hope there is no ban on post season play.

Who is using multiple phones? Everyone....

Considering what a sanctimonious holy man you are, it's a bit surprising to hear the "everybody's doing it" excuse coming of your mouth. Nothing like a guy who bangs the Bible on Sundays and believes in situational morality the rest of the week.

Dana O'Neil: ESPN.com coaching survey on dirty college basketball recruiting - ESPN

Who is using multiple phones? Everyone....

NYYVOL, Lofton4Three, still following me around and still with about as much basketball knowledge as my daughters diaper after too much fruit.

Of course others are doing it.

But who lied all while pretending to be a self-righteous stand up guy? That would be your hero that you firmly placed on that pedestal.

And as far as your daughter, send her my condolences on her father. Some people in life just draw the short straw.

And you claiming someone doing some following on this board is the epitome of irony.

You aren't even masking your absurdity since this broke, MHF.

Your double standard is pathetic.

Verc it is a bit surprising to hear you call me a sanctimonious holy man. The only time I can remember any Bible thumping was more cultural when I thought it was disgusting for men on this message board to be publicly discussing another mans wife like she was a piece of meat. I did not know when I defended her and said she was not like Britney Spears that she may well have been whoring it up with anyone who winked at her while working out at Ft. Sanders...

Are there other religious arguments I have forgotten?

My point on the phones is that the NCAA cannot hammer you for that. They can get mad that you lied, but not when you came forward and told them while they were still clueless.....

The NCAA is not capable of figuring out burner phones. They never will be able to. If coaches got more efficient they could use VOIP and bounce it and the NCAA would not be able to afford the computer to help, but burner phones work for them the same reason they work for the drug dealers...

As long as Pearl did not sign it "Coach Bruce Pearl" there is no way to say who was texting, and even if he did sign it, there is no way to prove a rival fan did not buy a phone at Walmart in Knoxville to screw with us....

Bruce Pearl did not come forward because he was caught. He came forward because he has a conscience.

I'm starting to believe that he is really the ghost of Johnny Cochran. That last line is gold.

Can you prove otherwise. You're just speculating. Hamilton would have to be a moron toblie at the Presser saying Bruce came clean and this is a precedent. The NCAA didn't pressure Pearl, burner phones are impossible to trace, and unless Bruce had somebody on the inside telling him they found out he lied then it seems he really came clean. But lets act as though he is scum.

Spot on.

I don't want to crucify BP or run him out of town, but I am not going to to sit here and applaud him, or pretend like he shouldn't be on a very very short leash.

Bruce found religion and an east tennessee girl. That's the start of a wonderful conscience.

I vaguely remember in 05 when he was hired when asked what the best book he had read in the past year was, he said the Old Testament. I'm starting to think he should revisit Exodus 20.
