Just heard on First Take they're working on instituting fines and suspensions for players once they reach the NFL if they are found to be receiving illegal benefits while in college.

It's a good start, but what I'd really like to see is the NFL barring agents from a set amount of time for getting caught for this as well.

The league office with the traditional leverage can do what ever it damn well pleases. All it will take is cooperation with the NCAA.

If theyre all in on this, though, no reason it couldn't get done. But I know the agent thing is wishful thinking.

The problem is pretty simple.

The NFL has a vested interest in maintaining a good relationship with the NCAA, since the NCAA basically acts as a farm system of sorts for the NFL.

The NFLPA has a vested interest in keeping shady characters, hucksters, and criminals out of the agent business and away from players.

The NCAA has a vested interest in making sure that the best players are on the field and being a good representative of the school and the NCAA rather than being dragged before committees to testify about agents.

I fully expect some type of joint resolution that has teeth to it. The NFL suspending players who take improper benefits would be a quick way to get this done; no smart college player would trade what could amount to millions of dollars (via lost draft position) in order to take a couple hundred here or there.

If it actually happens, the language will be so watered down that it won't be effective anyways.

Good theory, doubt it will be enforced like it should. I agree, agents should get some consequences as well.

If they would start fining the agents involved serious money $100,000. This would at least put the breaks on for a while.
