Some of the proposed rule changes, allegedly to improve the flow of the game. What do you guys think?

1. One coaches challenge per game, and if successful you keep the challenge.
2. Continuous motion on FG attempts when fouled.
3. Going from 20 minute halves to 10 minute quarters.

"The committee also proposed an elevated emphasis for officials to address delay-of-game tactics, limiting time at the monitor on reviews, and improving game administration efficiency while also reducing physicality".

Among other proposals submitted Friday:
  • Officials have the option to call a Flagrant 1 foul when a player is hit in the groin area. Currently officials can only call it a common foul or a Flagrant 2, resulting in an ejection.
  • A player could be called for basket interference if they use the rim to gain an advantage.
  • Should one of the two shot clocks at either end of the court become inoperable, the other shot clock could be utilized. Currently, both clocks are turned off if one is inoperable.

To me, anything that improves game flow and decreases the constant momentum-killing stoppages would be welcome. Lessening the constant reviews would be fantastic, and making it coaches challenge only is a good idea that eliminates the randomness of reviews.

Here's the thing - any rule change regarding game flow has to fit with the biggest obstacle of all, the endless TV timeouts. The networks are the boss, and would have to sign off on any of those kinds of changes.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the 4 quarters thing is to get an additional two TV timeouts.

Since the mid-Fifties, I've grown too used to the college men's game playing two halves rather than 4 quarters to now see it change to 4 quarters.
I don't think there'd be any real benefit, so I vote NO on that.

As an old timer, I have a strong resistance to change.
But I will accept change that can be turned into folding money.

As an old timer, I remember attending games in the early 1920's and it's always been halves

Hate to see the change

That is allegedly what the coach's challenge rule will be about. The endless stoppages for reviews are just brutal.
They are but my goodness the officiating is so bad. We would’ve lost to Auburn in the SEC tourney without reviews. Twice they called it Auburn ball in the last minute or so and both times it was overturned. I guess with the review you keep it as long as you’re right though so the change could still work, you just have to be certain.

Another thing I would change (though it has no bearing on " time") would be stopping coaches being able to use review time as a coaching time out. Have the teams stay at a corner totally away from their coaching sideline area. The same after a player fouls out. Coach has no right to take advanage of a mistake by one of his players. Just talk to the guy replacing the foul outer and move on quickly.
