The first 25 inductees to the NASCAR Hall of Fame are going to be announced on Speed at 8:00. Who do you think should be in?

These have to be locks; Richard & Lee Petty, Buck Baker, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Ned Jarret, Fireball Roberts, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Benny Parsons, Tim Richmond, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott*, Jeff Gordon*, Harry Gant, Tim Flock, Curtis Turner, Mark Martin*. This is if they go with active drivers.

They are just announcing 25 candidates.........they are only, for some ignorant reason, only going to actually "induct" 5 people per year. I think since NASCAR has been around for 60 years they could induct at least 10-15 a year for the first 2-3 years and then drop it to 5 but that's not what they are doing. It will take 5 years to get guys in that SHOULD go in immediately.

Not by my popular opinion or anything but the 5 I think they will induct this year are:

Richard Petty
Big Bill France
Dale Earnhardt
Junior Johnson
David Pearson

I honestly think that one of the first 5 that should go in IMO is T Wayne Robertson. If not for his involvement in getting RJ Reynolds into NASCAR racing it would be a much different sport or non existant.

I think the nominees tonight will include all of the above mentioned plus Cale Yarborough, Bobby Alllison, DW, Lee Petty, Curtis Turner, Fireball Roberts, Ken Squire, Fred Lorenzen.....

It'll be interesting to see how they go about inducting members. Do they start at the beginning of NASCAR and put in the drivers and other key people from the early days or do they start with the best/greatest/most accomplished drivers like Earnhardt, Waltrip, and so on?

I watched part of that show on Speed tonight, and they said that fans could vote for their five choices, but is that the only method of voting they're going to have? I doubt it'll be left entirely up to the fans, but if it is then the top five will probably be dominated by drivers.

Do they make guys wait so many years after retirement like other sports to get in?

The criteria for drivers was that they had to be active for 10 years and retired for at least three years.

For everyone else it was something to the effect of "significant accomplishments and contributions to NASCAR" in at least 10 years in the sport.

Thanks. I guess Mark Martin will be 85 before he gets in if he doesn't retire soon.

I love how NASCAR states that a driver must have competed at least 10 years to be eligible, yet there is Red Byron and his 15 whole career starts on the initial nominee ballot. I suppose this confirms that all past champions will definitely be nominated.

It appears the nominees span most of NASCAR history.

I understood it that the fans would count as one vote along with the other panelist each having one vote.

# = ones nominated
* = active drivers not eligible

Missed three - Gant, Richmond & Wallace. Wasn't thinking of so many owners getting nom's, especially those still active.
