I agree. Once Fulmer was named AD, that was all over. I would have loved to have Mike Leach here.

I honestly don't get it. The dude was interested and we aren't going to interview him again because...Phil doesn't think it's a good fit? That's some bull****. But let's hire Kevin ****ing Steele because he's a Tennessee guy

Am I the only one that thinks there was never any progress with Leach to begin with?

Currie ran to Washington State on a KSU plane, knowing he was about to be fired, and put out some info to make it sound like something was getting done. Either trying to save his job, or make the next man up look bad.

I just never really thought there was much to it.

I know. It’s my opinion that is the very reason Fulmer wasn’t qualified to be our AD. He simply couldn’t take his pride and ego out of it. Also, Fulmer wouldn’t have been able to control Leach.

Bruce Feldman (who is friends with Leach) said there was an interview that went really well.

According to Feldman, plenty was done.

He was interviewed just the other day.

And you're welcome.

For the record I love Petersen and would take him in a heartbeat. But he isn't on the list anymore. And that's my point. Why are these worthless POS coaches our only choices?

I was all for a Mike Leach hire off the bat if we missed on Gruden, Patterson, Petersen, and Jimbo. I slide Leach, with his experience and track record, up right at the head of the 2nd group with Dantonio and maybe Gundy. But it's obvious what all this is about....Phil had to use the Leach mess as his final ammunition to get Currie out and Phil in. And once THAT happened, there was no way in hell that Phil was gonna give away his "power" that he worked so hard to get. That is why he went the "hot coordinator route", so he can still be in control and influence more decisions with the team. He is not gonna give that power away now. There wasn't gonna be a Gundy, or Leach, or Petersen, or even Les Miles.....because they are all established coaches that demand their own power and decision making. Phil is locked in as Head Honcho now. He is gonna get him a young guy that won't tell him no. I saw it coming after he intervened in the Leach deal. Sad. We needed Leach. We needed him ASAP to get the wheels back on the track. We coulda still got an established winner too, but Phil was never gonna go that route. Waited too long, and put too much behind the scenes effort in to get his power. We just gotta hope his "master plan" lucks up and actually gets us a Top Notch Coordinator that turns into a Top Notch Head Coach.

Frankly, I was surprised that Fulmer had an interview with him. He (Petersen) must have given them a flat out "no".

Mike Leach was my #2 guy, though.

Did he also mention that Leach and Currie are friends and that was the main reason Leach wanted to come here? No Currie = no Leach

What would everyone say when we are putting up 28 points or even 31 a game and giving up more on defense and or our recruiting barely breaks potentially top 25

Dooley and Butch brought in better classes than that. So I would expect Leach to do better or the same. As far as defense goes, I’d say he’d be smart enough to hire a top notch defensive coordinator to run his defense. However it’s all for naught, he’s not coming. That’s a real shame, it would’ve been fun to watch.

Exactly. Not sure why this isn’t being reported more and that should tell you all ya need to know. This is why Currie went off the radar to go see him - also don’t be surprised to see Currie as the new AD at Washington state since they have an opening.

Leach and TN isn’t the right fit in my opinion. He’s too dang quirky as his defense is poor.
