On the Andy and Ari pod Nakos said that his about Tennessees QB situation.

1. We've "kicked the tires" on potential QBs

2. Tennessee staff views this roster as championship worthy and desire a QB that can deliver results. We are swinging big.

3. We aren't taking a warm body if we strike out but getting someone to compete with Merk or GMAC for the starting spot.

They got at least $2.4 mil to offer someone......I'd be suprised if they couldn't pull in a pretty good QB........may not be adjusted or ready to go Game 1 but if they can push Merk and be a solid contender for QB1 several games in I'll be super happy.......love to get a 1 year left senior or super senior who's a solid leader also.

Not to mention a state with no income tax!! That can not be overstated

We have a redshirt freshman, a true freshman and Faizon Brandon coming in. Hopefully he honors his commitment.
Bring in a guy for insurance and ride with what we have building to the future.

Bringing in a guy to start for one season and Brandon the following year just seems counter productive.
What would be the future for the two currently on campus? Brandon would sit one year, that's probably it.

" But we got a championship caliber team" And need a big time QB to take us to the promised land. One we're going to rip away from another program at the last minute.

Uh, huh.

It probably depends on “how ready” the staff thinks the two we currently have are for the starting job. I agree bringing in a guy for depth but who is going to want to transfer here only to sit the bench behind two freshman. Whoever we bring in will be competing for the starting job and should win it

A mid tier guy that can play and is looking for a pay day. A guy that can look back one day and say I was a SEC caliber player. Got some mop up duty in a few games.
That's probably better that playing for Kent State getting your brains beat in every week

You think the Kent States of the world having better QBs than our current ones? I don't.

I'd rather play any day than sit the bench unless I'm in the NFL doing like Dobbs, saying I sat the bench on a SEC team because someone needed a cheap body and paid me doesn't say SEC caliber player to me.
If you're looking for a bench mop duty guy then the only reasonable choice is to bring Gaston back, no one has taken him, toss him $100-150K to come back and help the other two develop but also knows what CJH wants if the worse should happen and his number gets called. $100-150K is better than no pay.

Honors his commitment?.... Have you looked around college sports the last few years? A commitment is now day to day.

One is leaving regardless, maybe two depending on who is taken in the portal. His commitment is to the University and putting the best team out there to win.

Good points. I’m not seeing anything like a championship team this year, not while breaking in a new OL. I see a ceiling of maybe 9-3. And Brandon isn’t going to start as a freshman. Sure, bring in a caretaker to help us this year while we develop our two QBs to fight it out next year.

I've advocated bringing Gaston back 👍

If we bring in a hired hand, top level QB, how do you keep them all happy when they all want to play? For those of us who didn't watch the Orange/white game why not just go with Merk as starter, maybe bring in a 3 rd string QB to compete for the job down the road? If you bring in a starter type QB even for 1 year, wouldn't you risk losing Merk ?

Schools don't honor commitment either. I have a co-worker whose son was a safety at Auburn. They kicked him to the curb and told him to go in the portal. He entered today, 6'2" 212 4 star out of high school. Got passed over by incoming Freshman getting $750,00.

At the moment, yes their QB is better than either of the two we have on our roster. Now is that to say that one or both of Mac or Merk won’t be better than him next year? Not necessarily, but in my and many other people’s opinion Johnson gives us a better chance to win this year than Mac or Merk
