My thoughts on Phillip Fulmer

One game thrown in with recent success, it would be easier to make an excuse for. But this is one game throw in a mix of several years of poor to average football, not to mention 3 straight losses to Florida. Throw in the Cal game, which we played horribly, and people have a reason to complain. If Tennessee wins out, that is great, but we have yet to beat anyone that I would consider a good team.

Let me summarize your logic:
We win = played a bad team
We lose = because we are a bad team

Georgia is an average team. Middle of the road. What have they done to prove otherwise this year? Beat another average team?

Your logic fails when you can't remember past the previous game. If Tennessee wins out, I will be happy and give the team kudos. But you think everything is hunky-dorey because we beat two mediocre teams while forgetting what we have done when we went up against real competition? The Georgia win was a good win over an average team. It doesn't make up for that embarrassing loss to Florida, one of the worst in the history of the program, nor does it make up for losing to Cal as bad as we did. It doesn't make up for all the years we have went without an SEC championship or BCS bowl appearance.

Seriously, I don't even see how you Fulmer supporters have a leg to even stand on when you look at recent history. What truths can you put out their to defend your case? It's always next year with you people, or give him another chance. I wonder if it wouldn't matter if we went 5-6 every year with some of you, you would still blindly support him. Can you honestly say the program is headed in the right direction and not feel the least bit that you are being dishonest with yourself? We got our asses handed to us by Florida, 59-20, who later got beat by an average Auburn team and has looked less than great against Ole Miss. Would you say Ole Miss has better athletes than UT? We got whipped by Cal, who has looked rather pedestrian since.

Your part of the fan base is so frustrating, because more should be expected out of this program than going to second rate bowl games and finishing years out of the top ten and even top 25. There's too much history here, too much support, and too much money for that to be acceptable. Getting embarrassed happens on occasion, but it is not as embarrassing if it is mixed in with successful seasons.

I just don't understand you at all.

So you count the last few UF games but only include this year's Cal game? Cherry-picking a bit huh?

Ok, I'll give credit for Cal 2006. Doesn't really change the argument about the direction of the program, however.

welcome to the fray Neyland! i respect your opinion, but i do wonder if this wobbly ship that is UT begins to take a nosedive, if we start losing some games, will you stick by your post? Go Vols!

UT should go after Gruden in Tampa or Bob Stoops. Both would come to UT for the right money, at least $4 mil.
