1. I was impressed with our effort. That was the #1 thing I was looking for today. It did not at all feel like our team has quit and just going through the motions. They hung in there and played hard. They could have mailed it in. That’s a credit to the coaches.

2. When you’re bad, the breaks go against you, like almost all the time. It’s amazing how often that plays out in sports. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a play like UGA’s first TD, but if something like that is going to happen, it happens against a crap team.

3. I have yet to see any evidence that JG is a good QB. He is tough, and our OL sucks something awful, but those 2 things seem to be the only supporting evidence people can muster. I honestly don’t think we have a good QB on the roster, so I can understand sticking with JG to try to develop him for next year, seeing as how KC won’t be here.

4. Kirkland seems to have regressed throughout his career, probably mainly bc of injuries. He missed a lot of tackles. Most of UGA’s highlights include a missed tackle from 34. Sapp might take his spot.

5. Ok, I know we suck, but that doesn’t justify blatantly ignoring targeting by our opponents. That’s 2 weeks in a row. The hit on Palmer was exactly the type of hit they’re supposed to be getting out of the game. It was crown of helmet to face mask on a defenseless player. I guess the official review people were refilling their snacks at the time. If I’m JP, I’m publicizing that one. He took the high road last week, but that was ridiculous today.

6. The play calling hasn’t been great, but Helton doesn’t have much to work with. I thought the OL looked better today than last week, but they’re just not good. We can’t run it consistently. The OL doesn’t protect we’ll enough for long developing plays, which allows the safeties to creep up. They try to roll JG out but he doesn’t appear to throw well rolling out. I’m certainly not sold on Helton, but I’m reserving judgment.

7. I can’t wait to see what our defense looks like a couple years from now. We need to keep overhauling the talent, but even with very little talent, I’m seeing flashes of what JP can do on that side of the ball.

8. We’ve got to cut out the stupid penalties. The multiple alignment issues on punts tells me that they’re practicing that way and the coaches never caught it. If any team should be good at lining up for punts, it’s us since our offense is so bad.

9. Hang in there guys. This very well could be the worst 2 year stretch that we’ve ever had, or ever will have. I don’t think even JP realized what he was up against here, but he’s here now, and unless he goes Mike Price on us, he’s going to get at least 3 years, and probably 4. I just have to hope that he will learn quickly the things you don’t have to focus on as a DC, while also fixing the defense.

I’m going to say it......wouldn’t surprise me if we are within a TD or field goal in the 4th against Auburn. I saw something in this team today. Also, Auburn struggled with Southern Miss today, they may be a bit overrated
They stuggled against arkansas too.

Good points WTM... spot on. I feel Helton could have done much more with the passing game earlier. Roll JG around some... but if he was gimpy then that was not going to work either.

Bottom line, TN will come back, but that will take stability in the staff and recruits. Its good to see the D responding and improving weekly... but the O side is not moving the needle and that points to a weak front line... likely that product is what it is for the rest of the year.

I'm not trying to pile on, but I'll have to echo those sentiments about Kirkland. He just doesn't seem to be the same player. It may be time to give Sapp or Ignont a look. Ignont had shown some flashes in his brief appearances.

The only part of your post I kind of disagreed with.

The JG competency debate has become a glass half full/half empty kind of debate for me.

Yes he still stares down receivers too much, but at least he makes it to the second read sometimes and has displayed very good mid range accuracy so far this year.

His first time throwing down the field trailing 24-0 late in the 3rd quarter he put up six points...

In not trying to argue he's proven he's a good QB but I'll certainly suggest the evidence he won't be isn't there either.

Side note that I really liked; Georgia had to change QB's and run the wildcat to ice the game. No I'm not claiming moral victory but I'm claiming a pulse.....

Good post OP

4. This is my only comment on your post. Sapp is not better than Kirkland even if Kirkland has regressed. This next time Sapp hits a back at the line of scrimmage and drops him at the line of scrimmage or for a loss it will be the first time. He is a player that is ripped and athletic but gets run over too often. Maybe he can take Bituli's place since we never hear his name.

To your last point if you bring in a true freshman with light experience you have to expect them to run the football. We should've dared him to throw or knew the run was coming. Maybe we did and just did a crap job of stopping it.

I disagree with #6. We have plenty of serviceable offensive players/weapons for Helton to work with. Admittedly, the OL isn't very good, so he is handicapped there. I never really liked the Helton pick as OC and I haven't seen much that impresses me.

Helton had Jeff Brohm as a HC at Western Kentucky, and walked into USC with Sam Darnold as a QB. With the way he is running this offense, I'm wondering it he hasn't traded on his circumstances moreso than his actual abilities in getting his position here.

I would love to beat Auburn. We haven’t beaten them in this century, and the games generally haven’t been close.

To clarify on JG, I don’t think he’s bad. I think, right now at least, he’s average. With this OL, you need to be a lot better than average, or really elusive like Dobbs, to succeed.

Good post, I’ll comment on just #9 & then some general observations. Agree this very well could be the worst two year stretch that we’ve ever had...certainly looks that way. Also, I too am very much hoping Pruitt will learn quickly...

General observations: Pruitt has looked like a first time head coach. In no way do I question his passion or effort. He’ll get at least 3 to 4 years & I’ll be shocked if it’s anything less than 4. Overall the product on the field has underwhelmed. Poor tackling, suspect blocking, consistent slow/poor starts, inability to line up properly, turnovers (big improvement there today). I thought we had a chance when Pruitt was hired to beat either W. Va or FL but we didn’t even come close in either. Butch (and I’m not a fan of his in the least) didn’t look this bad at this point in his first season & that has me concerned. It’s early, I know, but still has me concerned.

Regardless, it’s most definitely a master rebuild.

It’s amazing how much better an OC looks when he has a good OL. Like I said, I’m reserving judgment on Helton for now, but I’m not sold yet either.

Nice job bro. But, I disagree about JG, he's already a more accurate passer than Dobbs. But, he's not a playmaker with his feet. He doesn't react as fast to adversity by the defense, but UT can win with him if they protect him and let him throw it down the field.

You can tell Kirkland has lost a step or still isn't 100%. I think he can still be serviceable, but I don't know if we will ever see what he could have truly been.

Very nice overview.

6 is my only issue. I realize Helton doesn't have much to work with. But, there have been way to many WTF moments on offense. Time and time again we run in spots it won't work 9 out of 10 times. Every game this year I end up saying, my god throw the ball at least three times per half. Johnny Majors would say he's being too conservative. I know we want to run the ball. But, an intermediate passing attack is a must in today's game.

Good post. I agree with about everything. Kirkland looked like a pinball out there. I noticed, in general, we just aren't very physical. Maybe due to too many underclassmen.

I’m going to say it......wouldn’t surprise me if we are within a TD or field goal in the 4th against Auburn. I saw something in this team today. Also, Auburn struggled with Southern Miss today, they may be a bit overrated

I agree. I saw more give a damn from the players. To be really good at anything as complex as football, you have to give a damn. There are tons of areas this team needs to continue to improve but, I feel a little better about USCe, mizoo and Vandy as well. Props to UK for the time being.
