My irrelevant assessment

I agree for the most part but seeing what Ole Miss did today makes the losing record excuse invalid IMO. I think we have a solid class, but it could have been spectacular.

I'm waiting to see as well and hoping CBJ can get it done on the field. We're due, holy f-ing S, we're due.

as I said to someone else...this was Freeze's second class...and Ole Miss showed dramatic improvement on the field this year...Butch improves the Vols performance to that degree and we may have a similar class next year...also...Ole Miss just seems fishy right now...not sour grapes...just an honest observation.

I think today has been kinda funny. Basically, losing VB flipped everybody on how they felt we did today. Getting Bell would have moved us up to 15 on Rivals, and everybody probably would have been pretty excited about this class. We end up losing Bell and everybody thinks today sucked. I really thought he was gonna sign here and wish he did, but it seems like just that one player changed how everybody is viewing this class.

You can't "lose" someone you never had. The way I see it is that Tennessee needs players like Vonn Bell, but only if they WANT to be here. Period.

Today did not kill Butch Jones but it certainly didn't help.

You really can't expect a whole lot, but the reason we got our hopes up and deem it as a failure is because we actually had a chance at several high level prospects.

I am impressed with the way this staff is working. Hard work will pay off. Now, just focus on getting a win or two, and players will come.

I feel the same way but he is going to have to do it with players that aren't as good as the ones they are playing against.

Hugh Freeze did it. Go take a look at Ole Miss's signing class last year. It was horrible. Hugh Freeze came into a terrible situation, changed the culture, changed the mindset, and completely turned the program's mentality around in ONE YEAR. If it can be done in Oxford (where literally no football tradition exists), it can be done in Knoxville. Coaching matters, and I believe Tennessee got a good one. Give him time and judge him by "on the field" play.

this mentality doesn't make sense to me...(I want players that want to be here)...the job of the coaches is to make players WANT to be here...and no we might not have "lost" Bell according to your terms...but we certainly LOST the recruiting battle for him...Urban Meyer beat Butch for this kid. Not dogging Butch, but recruiting is a competition with winners and losers on every player.

I agree this staff seems to work their butts off...just hope that is a reality...I think their use of social media paints the picture of how much they work...but are they actually outworking any of their competition? Are they actually putting in more hours that Dooley and crew?

Alvin Kamara signing with Bama makes no sense to me at all with the number of running backs they have.

Nope. Do not understand how we can barely get ONE when guys are signing left and right for Bama and UGA. Bama literally will have 8 legitimate backs next year, and Gurley should get at least 20 carries a game for the next two years at UGA. If he doesn't, the coaches are dumb.

We have an experienced OL and can realistically give a true freshman about 5-10 carries a game in our offense. Just doesn't make sense at all.

Yea, that is a good point about social media. But, this staff uncovered things and made offers that I never heard about from a Dooley staff. So, Ryan Jenkins (a legacy) is a former teammate and friend of Lawson and friend of Kamara? Never knew any of that until Jones was hired- even that Jenkins was a legacy. Of course, it didn't help us in the end, but if our former staff had done something earlier with Jenkins, maybe things change. This staff offers Vic Wharton right away when some have said that he is friends with other in state talent.

I just think this staff understands relationships a little better and is uncovering and working the "lines" more than the previous staff. Just never heard about them working these angles. JMO.
