My email to Mike Hamilton...

Good stuff bluegrasser & tidwell, and all others who have taken the time to send these emails.

How much effect they will have, hard to say, but its certainly better than doing nothing.

I am as pissed as anyone in this universe about the game sat... but dont you all realize... we werent championship caliber until fulmer came along? am i the only one that sees this or what? fulmer took us to the elite level of college football teams. be careful what you wish for because its taken lots of teams many DECADES to get back to even close to where they wanted to be once they fired coaches.

Yes, we realize there is risk in change. However, the status quo is not acceptable. I am confident we will never be satisfied again with the current regime.

Change can be bad... but it can also be good. You just have to do the research and do it in the right way... rather than solely by knee jerk reaction.

I'll leave you with an analogy - A might ship once sailed the seas, but one day it struck an iceberg and took a fatal blow. Some, resisting a change from the status quo and fearful of leaving the ship, stayed on board and thought, "well the ship once sailed, it will sail again." Others, recognizing the severity of the situation and left the comfort of the ship for the unknown water. Those who stayed went down with the ship, those who left survived to live another day.

The Fulmer regime is a sinking ship, for the sake of the program I want us to recognize that before its too late.

Dear Mr. Hamilton,

I have been a UT football fan all of my life. I have had many members of my family attend the university. As a fan of the football team I attend atleast 3-4 games per year. I have grown up on the tradition of Tennessee Football and have noticed the program has taken a few steps backwards. I am grateful for the job you have done in your current position and I am aware that your job is no easy career but the reason you get paid what you do is to make sure to do what is best for the university.

Phil Fulmer is a good man, he has been an admirable ambassador of our program, and in years past, helped the University’s football team achieve an uncommon measure of success. However, it is quite clear now, to the most passionate fans as well as the most unbiased bystander, that he is no longer able to field a championship caliber team. The game has passed him by, unfortunately, and I have no faith that the University of Tennessee’s pride and joy, its football team, will reach any of its goals, or achieve the levels that we can reasonably expect, with Fulmer at the helm. Rather, I believe under his leadership, the program will struggle to remain competitive on a national basis – and the program will suffer financially.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this email, and let me leave you with one request. Please make an expedient change before our tradition is further tarnished by lackluster play and embarrassing losses. No man is bigger than the program, and despite the fact that Phil is a good man, he is no longer the man for the job. You have done a fantastic job with the hire for our basketball program, we are confident that you can do the same our football team. The only thing worse than doing what we have to do, is suffering any longer than necessary.

Sincerely,

I took the original, and just changed the first section, Maybe it will start sounding very familar.

Subject: Go Vols!!!

And mine:

Dear Mike,

As I'm sure you're a very busy man, I will keep this e-mail short and to the point.

I'm writing to you in regards to the head coaching position of the University of Tennessee football team. It is my belief that is time to make a change in order for UT football to return to prominence and respectability not only nationally, but in the Southeastern Conference as well. Phillip Fulmer has accomplished great things as the UT head coach, however the bulk of those accomplishments came in the 1990s. Since that time, the 2001 SEC Championship Game more specifically, the great accomplishments have been few and far between. There have been good wins and 10 win seasons, but not with the regularity that they were in the '90s when there were fewer games played during the seasons.

I will point to your brilliant hire of Bruce Pearl to lead the basketball program to show that I have the utmost confidence that you can find a great coach to lead the football team as well.

I would also like to add that I am neither an alum of UT nor a big time donor, just a dedicated and concerned fan that makes time to watch every game and proudly wears the UT orange.

Sincerely,
Yeah and you will probably get a response like this.

Dear (fill in the blank) I respect your concern regarding the football program. But i think we have a great coach already here in place. I won't you to know we will be "working like heck to fix the problem". Oh i won't be in my office today so don't bother responding anymore. Me and phil are going up the tennessee river on phil's yacht, thanks and have a good day. Go vols!

I've been trying to write one for a couple days but it's tough. Oh well, I'll finish it eventually.

Mike just has his secretary delete his emails during times like this. He won't read any of them. The only thing Mike Hamilton understands is EMPTY SEATS. That's the reason he fired Buzz and that will be the only reason he will fire Phil. Don't go to the games Boycott Phil and he will be gone.

Boycotting games won't help bc not enough people will seriously commit to that. I really doubt anything can sway Hamilton's mind besides his own thoughts, but if I had to say anything the only way Fulmer is gone is bc of W's and L's. And I even doubt that will matter...

I do applaud everyone for sending emails though. Who knows what effect they will have, but at least you all are doing as much as you can.

Empty seats that have been paid for already? Yeah, that will do it.

If you don't want to go make your voice heard but just donate the tickets. There are many people around Knox that do not have the resources to get to one UT game. As a Vol fan, that would make me happier than seeing empty seats.

i would think it would look bad if say there were many empty seats at the georgia game. arky st. no one will really say ne thing since its on ppv and not a rival. if that happens when georgia comes to town, wow an uproar will happen

First off, I love UT football. Heck, I even get angry when texas tries to call themselves UT....bunch of losers!!!! Anyways, like most of you I have supported Fulmer. But, it is a sad day because it is hard for me to do that any longer. Fulmer has done great things, but it has been years, you all know this. The part that seems to trouble me the most is that he doesn't look that concerned about it. Where is his fire? Did you see Chavis? He has no fire as well. He honestly looked like a bumbling idiot standing on the sidelines. Like he had no clue. Unlike some of you, though, I think we have some good coaches that should stay. Regardless of play calling thus far that is influenced by an injured QB, Cutcliffe should stay. Do you not remember the disaster that was 2 years ago and how that has changed dramatically on the offensive side of the ball. I also believe that we should keep Trooper Taylor, he is up and coming and could develop into a fine co-ordinator some day. I also believe that Fulmer is staying, but should be forced to fire Chavis. He has no answer for the college offenses of today. There is still some hope for this year, but deep down I believe it is pretty much down the drain. Of course, I could hope for the Music City Bowl at the worst so I can actually have a chance to go to a bowl game that features Tennessee. (being just 30 miles from Nashville) I also think that it may be time to let the younger guys play more so they will be ready in 2 years and have a shot at some sort of title other than best team in Tennessee.

I am pretty sure Haslam and friends could sway Hamilton.
