I encourage you to do the same... there are a couple of ways that we can effect change, through 1) diminished financial support, and 2) an overwhelming outcry against the status quo. For the record, I was on the fence on Fulmer until today.

Hello Mike,

I am an alum (1997) and was born and raised in Knoxville. While I am now a practicing CPA in Texas, I love Tennessee and I will always consider Tennessee my home. I take great pride in the state of Tennessee - and particularly in our football program. Being an objective and reasonable analyst has always been one of my strengths, and I would respectfully like to voice my opinion. This is an opinion that I know for a fact is shared by thousands of fellow Volunteers.

Phil Fulmer is a good man, he has been an admirable ambassador of our program, and in years past, helped the University’s football team achieve an uncommon measure of success. However, it is quite clear now, to the most passionate fans as well as the most unbiased bystander, that he is no longer able to field a championship caliber team. The game has passed him by, unfortunately, and I have no faith that the University of Tennessee’s pride and joy, its football team, will reach any of its goals, or achieve the levels that we can reasonably expect, with Fulmer at the helm. Rather, I believe under his leadership, the program will struggle to remain competitive on a national basis – and the program will suffer financially.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this email, and let me leave you with one request. Please make an expedient change before our tradition is further tarnished by lackluster play and embarrassing losses. No man is bigger than the program, and despite the fact that Phil is a good man, he is no longer the man for the job. You have done a fantastic job with the hire for our basketball program, we are confident that you can do the same our football team. The only thing worse than doing what we have to do, is suffering any longer than necessary.

Sincerely,

Well stated. Unfortunately a well-reasoned message like this will get mixed in with the tens of thousands of grammatically-deficient, drivel-laden redneck missives that are sure to arrive in Hamiton's inbox only to be ignored. Your heart is in the right place, and I hope (but doubt) that your message will have the desired effect.

Hamilton's email address is: mhamilton@tennessee.edu
I have also emailed Fulmer, the Chancellor of the UT Campus, Peterson, the President of UT, and Stuart, the Alum President.....I think we all need to communicate our feelings and opinions to the people who make the decisions. BTW, I am also trying to find the email address to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees! Might as well go to the top.
Great letter General Jack!

I sent an email to Hamilton after the Cal game and got a response. The response was specific to my message because he used my language in his response. I do not know if he actually read it or has a grad assistant or someone else reading and responding.

The hire and firing of a coach is all about timing. How are the finances in the UT Athletic Department? Can we afford to fire Fulmer? Can we afford to hire someone else?

I wrote that I "respectfully request that you consider major changes in the coaching staff of our football program"......he wrote back and said, "I respectfully disagree with you related to Phil Fulmer. He has my full support. Go Vols!"
That was it.

And there you have it.

On a national basis? Are you serious? We haven't been competitive on a national basis for many years. We're now no longer competitive within our own conference!

I think you know what I meant. And this letter was written in the same manner that I converse with executives in my professional life, not in the manner I speak with hacks on a message board.

Small consoliation but the chances of Fulmer losing 5 of the following and resigning are pretty high:

SC
GA
Ala
Ark
Ky
Bowl opp

Think you should add that the lack of a special teams coach was evident today. Why we can't cough up some money for someone to be solely dedicated to coaching that is beyond me.

I too was on the fence but have since decided that only a change at the top will lead to future success. It is a matter of culture. The beliefs and values that are instilled in a team are critical to its success. Those values and the culture of this team are obviously flawed. They have been for years. Let us not delay in our actions to rise to the level that the Volunteer Fans desire and the players deserve. Take action now and lets move on.

The fact of the matter remains that we aren't competitive on a national level, and if Fulmer isn't removed, we'll continue to struggle to remain relevant within the SEC East. National relevance is a pipe dream.
