I posted this in another thread, but I felt so strongly about it that I felt the need to make a separate thread. I would love to hear your thoughts and comments.

UT has the ability to win this game. Any given Saturday whether it's WKU or USC, anyone can beat Florida on Sep. 19. The only differences are that UT is on paper-thin margins of error and will be relying, moreso than usual, on Florida mistakes. I'm telling you, even 1 dropped ball or missed tackle on UT's side can drastically throw the advantage to UF. Here are the keys:
1)We need absolutely NO turnovers
2)Eat up the clock
3)Need our defense to possibly score or put us in scoring position
4)Dominate on the ground
5)Keep 3rd and long to absolute minimums
6)Keep dropped passes, miscues, and penalties to an extremely low minimum
7)Put UF in position to make a mistake

Still, if the 7 keys are followed UF still can beat us on shear talent, home-field advantage, and the intangibles. We have to play close to 100% efficient and hope to force UF to about 60% efficiency. Very, very difficult to do but anyone can win on Sep. 19. Go Vols!

So, in essence you are saying that UT needs to play a perfect game and UF needs to lay a big fat egg.

see a lot of threads about what to do to win.

figuring out what needs to be done ain't the problem.

figuring out how to take tennessee's group of players and do it against florida's group of players is the problem.

Yes, but HOW do you go about doing this is, alone, worth a new thread. Repeating tired football coach cliches is, well, tired.

1. How do you go about not turning the ball over when your team, especailly the QB, seems predispositioned to do so?
2. What are some of the ways that you could manage to "eat up the clock"?
3. How does your defense score, especially against a team with a shred of offense (WKU and UCLA had none)?
4. Given the quality of your OL, how do you go about "dominating on the ground"? What plays do you need to run to keep perhaps the best D in the nation off-kilter so you can continue to run the ball?
5. I guess keeping 3rd and long to minimums coincides with the above
6. How do you keep your team from committing these errors? It seems it's been a problem or you wouldn't have listed it. What has to be different?
7. How do you go about putting UF in a position to make a mistake?

I think all the answers to those questions has a LOT to do with coaching. What are your coaches going to do to give your team, heavy underdogs and not possessing the same talent/depth, the best chance to succeed?

So the perfect game has to be played? I hope so but I absolutely have zero hope going into this game, I love my Vols and I hope and pray we give 'em a run for it but fellas this one just might get ugly.

I think this is pretty accurate. An A+ game from UT and an F game from Florida means we have a very slim chance to win. I just don't see UF laying an egg. Too much on the line for them.

1)We need absolutely NO turnovers
Ball wrap drills this week in practice, extra ball exchange reps, simple and easy out patterns for Jon to place the ball to where it can't be picked (ala Spurrier)
2)Eat up the clock
Run the ball a lot. Run down play clock on every play
3)Need our defense to possibly score or put us in scoring position
Berry needs to be on A game, and we need to go at Tebow like never before
4)Dominate on the ground
Bryce, Montario, and Oku get heavy, heavy workload
5)Keep 3rd and long to absolute minimums
Short simple out patterns, 2 strong runs per series to leave a manageable 3rd down
6)Keep dropped passes, miscues, and penalties to an extremely low minimum
Work on drills in practice this week, go over gameplan more than usual, make sure players are mentally strong before and during game
7)Put UF in position to make a mistake
Hit, hit, hit. Use the weather to our advantage. Let UF see things from UT that they didn't expect, get them rattled early on.

I'm a little surprised that no one mentions weather as a factor. Looks like there is a good chance the field is soggy from friday showers and there's a 50% chance of rain on sat.

You could win just about any game you play if you can do those things. I just question whether we have the horses to get it done this year. But that doesn't mean we don't go down there and give them hell as best we can.

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

The difference is that on some weeks you can be weak in some areas and still come out on top. We could still beat WKU by playing badly. Against UF everything will need to be done down to a T!

A very overlooked observation. Kicking and field position could be vital in this game.

Actually those were the maxims, but I agree. One thing about winning Tennessee teams in the past is they have been very good at the field position game.

I like our odds in the rain.

Much like 2002, right? And that was in Tennessee. Florida is, just like 2002, coming off a rain-soaked game. Crompton has trouble with the ball in dry conditions and in his own house.

I think the equalizer, if there is one, is the pressure for Florida to blow out Tennessee. I think rain only helps the Gators in such a scenario.

I like our odds in the rain.

In terms of all the ball handling in the spread it might up our chances of getting a turnover, and if the weather is so bad that it really effects the passing game and it becomes an old school slog in the mud type game, I think that might help us a bit too.

Actually, our best chance involves one simple tactic.

Suit up every former Vol currently playing in the NFL and take our chances that the NCAA doesn't notice.

Crompton/Manning touchdown passes would be pretty big red flags.

(1) Replace Urban Meyer with Phil Fulmer
(2) Replace Tebow with Crompton
(3) Inject Smokey with Rabies, and have him bite each of the Florida players
(4)Fill the Gator jockstraps with itching powder before the game
(5)Have the Florida team play the entire game with their helments on backwards
(6)Have Tony Soprano make Urbie an offer he can't refuse

And last but definitely not least:
(7) Every time Florida is getting ready to score, have Layla Kiffin streak across the field (this might not really help, but who cares?)
