dont know if its ben posted but it should be.

Now to Manvols Letter from yesterday.

'We are suppose to be some of the greatest fans in college football and our blood runs deep orange; unless it rains, to hot, bad opponent, or ____ (fill in the blank). No more than 65 k VOLS were at the game last Saturday night. That away so called VOL fans show your orange and white pride. Home games are precious; there are only 7 or 8 home games a year so unless there is a hurricane that stadium should be full. Our fans talk a big game but when it comes down to it most only show up when condition and opponents are optimal. When did it change? I went to my first game as 10 year old boy in 1979 and have sat through many a storms and bad opponent with Neyland stadium packed. Not anymore, I guess the blood only runs orange for “fans” when it’s convenient. Once the beloved VOLS could depend on the fans support but again not anymore, new blood only runs orange when it sunny and 82 and our opponent is one of the top 3 teams in the SEC. To those who went the game you really showed your football knowledge; You cheered louder for the Ohio band and our band playing that less than intimidating cheesy "how much is that doggie in the window" at half time. Are you kidding me? What’s next the kiss cam? Oh wait a minute we have that. Where are the T shirt cannons when you need one? Yes, the recruits will come here in droves with an atmosphere like last Saturday night! I don’t understand this new breed of fans who don’t know how or when to cheer either. When we are on D stand up make some noise its ok your diet coke, pizza, and M & M's will be there until we go on offense then you can sit back and enjoy your feast. Too add who are the non football educated “fans” trying to do the wave when we have the ball! Are you kidding me should I even have to explain why that is a football fauxpas? Sad all around effort by true VOL fans, what happen to Neyland stadium being one of the most intimidating places for opponents to play and what happen to a rock n’ home field advantage on a Saturday night?
Bryan Smith – VOL fan 24/7 not when its 82 degrees and sunny
Knoxville

please forward on

Wonder how many posters who were indoors Saturday night will chime in on this?

I wonder if the increase in ticket prices is rearing its ugly head?

I'll be there Saturday night.

Lol - well - only thing I really agree with him on is the wave (wtf - we were up like 7 points in the 3rd quarter at that point - and the students started it sadly) and that is was a rather poor showing... lots and lots of empty seats. I saw 4 tickets going for $10 walking to the stadium.

I'm confused about his dig when we cheered for the Ohio band - is he complaining about that? If so - he's a retard.

I agree with what he says. It ridiculous. If it is a "good" game, half the crowd is retired people who make zero noise. And if the weather isn't ideal, half stays away. Its always been an honor for me to go watch them play. Seems people have gotten spoiled or just don't care.

I wonder why he's not a fan when it's 82 and sunny? I would think that would be the perfect weather time to be a fan! :D

I was there and it stopped raining more than an hour before the game. Some people just cant afford to go to all the games, I know I cant. If some people are going to spend the money, they are going to want to go to a game that is against an SEC team. If I could pay to go to every game, I would be at all of them rain or shine, cold or hot!

I would bet my car that tickets were cheaper outside the stadium than the ppv. If you can pony up $30 to watch on tv then there is no excuse

it's true. half don't cheer and the other half don't stand or get pissed if you do. anyone that has been going to vol games the last 10 years or so knows this already tho. i have been asked to sit down during the game so many times at neyland that it honestly makes me sick. i have seen the vols play FL 6 times and in each game i have been asked to take a seat. its pretty pathetic really...

oh and i was at the game sat. and i was cheering very loudly.

there will be times this year when katie my wife and mandy my brothers wife wont be able to go due to work, so there is 2 free tickets to 2 or 3 games a year.

And its Florida with the bandwagon, fair weather fans? We've been selling out all games for years, even before current wave of success. UT should be no different. UGA same, Alabama, LSU, etc.

I'm poor and I don't live in Knoxville. Tried to get tix from one of my old coaches for the Ohio game, but cut it too close.

Yes we do.

and 92,000 is more than 60,000.

No you don't - and if you do - then we had 97k for Ohio or however many they announced over the PA at the start of the game.

We still "sold" more than 92,000 tickets for that game. But there weren't over 75,000 actually in the seats.

No you haven't. And you also seat 92k(?) and you're school is located in Florida, obviously.

Which has to share it's population with UF, FSU, Miami, USF, UCF, and FAU all of which are FBS schools.

Tennessee has UT, Vandy and Memphis.

Simply saying that Florida has more residents is silly given the number of universities that spread out the fans.

No one has really responded to the question, but do you think that the increase in ticket prices is at fault?

$50 for a ticket to see us play Ohio and WKU... now that so many games are televised, have we reached the downward slope of the cost/benefit equation?

$100 for a pair of tickets, plus $20 to park, $20 for a couple of dogs and cokes... suddenly its a $140 trip.

For some fans it's not about being fair weathered, it's about the cost. I will spend the better part of $1000 dollars on tickets, gas, food and hotel for a family of 4 to come see a game. If I am going to spend that kind of money I want to see us play one of the big boys on the block. I still bleed orange rather I'm at home or lucky enough to be at the game....

Lol - FSU is the only team Florida actually shares fans with.

Miami fans are generally really crappy and the majority of them are in the city of Miami - yet they are still bad fans since it is a pro-city. USF, UCF, and FAU? Are you kidding me?

Tennessee also has tons of Bama fans and a fair amount of Georgia fans. I've never been out to west Tennessee or Memphis - but I'm sure there are plenty of Ole Miss/Arkansas fans.

Florida's fan base is larger - and significantly larger now that they have added thousands and thousands of bandwagon fans in the past 4 years.
