So what are some of your musical "hot takes"? So in case somebody doesnt know, hot take means give me an unpopular music related opinion that is a hill you will die on.

Here's one of mine. If Michael Jackson's album "Bad" had followed Off The Wall instead of Thriller, it would be just as highly regarded today.

I don't know if it's a "hot take" or simply just overlooked, but the disco era showcased a lot of really super talented bands, singers, and some great B-sides. A lot of good stuff overshadowed by the over-commercialization of the disco scene.

1000% agreed. Some great music came out of the disco era!

I don’t care for Robert Plant’s voice so am not a Zepplin guy. There was a tribute album in the 90’s that I like so it’s not the songs. Similar to the Hagar hot take. I’ll own it.

I feel the same about AC/DC too. I Like a couple of songs, but the singers voice (both of them) is like nails on a chalkboard to me

This has been my view for years: The Beatles are massively overrated and their music is horrible.

There are so many bands I think are horrible, but I see why others might like it. Either for musicianship, songwriting, style, etc..
I used to be a miserable music snob and then I realized most people just don't care like I do.

IMO, the Beatles are undeniably important. For the actual short time they were together they did some pretty amazing things for that era.
But like politics---you're never going to change someones mind.

I enjoy the Beatles solo stuff after the breakup more than when they were together

The boldened is a pretty substantial thing. With a little nuanced thought one can hold that their music isn't particularly appealing but simultaneously acknowledge there's no getting around what a huge impact they had to music itself at the time.

John Bonham is a better drummer than Neil Peart. More soul.
Zeppelin is my favorite band and I have always said he is the greatest drummer, but I am a big Peart fan as well. Rush was my first rock concert.

I like how you said more soul, that is a good way to put it. He could mash and keep great rhythm. Peart was technically so good.

So true. In my 1st band and less than a year into playing bass, I had to my first recording experience in a pretty nice studio in Atlanta.
The engineer knowing I never had lessons was gracious to teach me some things.
The first thing he did was let me listen to Ramble On drum and bass iso track. Back then it was harder to acquire.
Totally changed me and my level of repect for that rhythm section.
