'26 MS WR Tristen Keys (lsu commit)

Learning from the Nico debacle
well that, and we have a track record that says we're just not in to outbidding for players. Francis Mauingoa a few years ago fits here as well. we were very deep on that one....same with the other OL, forget his name, that at the 11th hour goes to CO out of nowhere...and there've been a few others, a couple WR's....

i think we, Tennessee, overall has a great package that compares well with most anyone in the country. from a total value perspective, there's just not that many, if any at all, that are just THAT much better than us. between all the available resources while here, once your done here, connections at the professional level, the athletic department as a whole....and NIL.....we're gong to be in the same ball park with anyone.

so if a player can take that whole package and set it aside because of some extra NIL$....so be it...i'm not sure that's the kid we want here long term. and when $$ is #1, chances are, they aren't going to be here long term.

and yeah, i do think there were a lot of lessons learned from the Nico deal. talk about having ZERO reasons to leave....was going to make $2m this year, and that ain't enough? kick rocks.

this still has to come in to the equation somewhere. and if it doesn't, cool w/me if you don't come here or leave. and this is a general statement about recruting today not necessarily a determination or judgement on Keys. he may be a great fit here, hope so, and if so, hope he winds up here.

this is the kind of player you pay. nico wasn't
what makes you say that?

people thought Nico was that dude in high school too. best dang tape, generational talent that was going to lead us to the promised land, no way to mess him up, ready to play now. everyone thought the crazy, at the time, money we were paying for Nico was worth every penny. especially because it was a higher profile position

because at WR, there are certain things you cannot teach, practice, or be coached...

We have missed a dynamic, big physical receiver who can leap, run, and grab. Then get yards afterward. Dude gets separation even when DT'd. Thornton just couldnt stay healthy.

Dude reminds me of Meach.

Miami is also an Adidas school and he’s fresh off a visit with them.

Hope I’m wrong but I’d say this one ends up out of our price range if we are able to land other big fish (Hiter, Rouse, etc.)

so nothing different than the same promise Nico had. he had all the tangibles and intangibles while in HS.

yeah. this kid is nico redux.

WR is not the same position as QB. One requires maturity, and mental processing. Not required at WR.

Nico absolutely was. He just developed into a player you don’t, for the money his camp wanted. He’d probably still be our starting qb if he hadn’t skipped practice.
