Need the jet sweep reintroduced. He pauses the edge rushers and helps with pass blocking and runs for hurd

Amen. The jet sweep/jet sweep motion was pretty effective for us last year. It creates a four options on every play (jet sweep, RB handoff, QB keep, play action). I would also like to see us run more out of the pistol formation. I think that would help Hurd run downhill more than what we're able to do now.

if it moves a linebacker, or takes a DB out of run support then yes. it will help Hurd or anyone running it between the tackles.

it doesn't erase the penetration issues our O line has had though. we've seen 3 man fronts get in the backfield.

i do think the jet sweep action would help, especially in the interests of getting back to what this offense's identity is supposed to be...but it doesn't necessarily cure all ills.

flip it around, what does FL do offensively against our defense?

to me, if i'm FL, i look at a depleted LB corp and a depleted secondary and i find ways to take advantage of that. Mosley hasn't been good, safeties haven't been great, JM has been prone to PI penalties and right now our LB's are a match up nightmare for their TE.

which means our D line has to step up. pass rush has to be there. if it's not, and they can take advantage of those issues, we'll look up and they'll be able to run the ball because of it.

so again, defensively, we need to be aggressive up front and not allow Applbey to get any confidence passing the ball. they're going to try and make the game plan easy for him, they're not going to ask him to fling it all over the field, but again, a lot like with us, there will be opportunities for him....will they be able to capitalize?

if we find ourselves reacting against this QB, that's bad. i expect us to come out and disguise a lot of our coverages and blitzes. keep his head on a swivel. what was there, isn't.

if we can do that, then it makes it much easier for us to stop the run, and make them more predictable on 1st down.

there's a path to winning this game. it won't be easy. but if we can execute, we can win this game. it will take an effort we haven't seen yet, yes. but it's there.

Appleby throws the ball terribly under pressure. A whole new world of terrible.

If I'm the gators OC, I'm getting the RB's and TE's heavily involved in the passing game. Those are more friendly passes for a new QB and can be blitz killers as I'm anticipating a lot of blitzing from the Vols defense.

good point. and this is where Jumper is a mismatch against us. he doesn't have the speed to chase guys down.

if our defenders are having to turn around and chase, that's bad. get home, play the assignment.

one thing we did very well last year, for about 3 1/2 quarters was run blitz. and we did it pretty effectively.

i do think stopping the run is first for us. but from the FL perspective, you think it's just a matter of not trusting the qb, or do you still try to attack weaknesses in our D?

which weakness will hurt the other team the most? our defensive liabilities or their QB situation?

i'm still not sure i'm 100% in the camp that "we're saving it for FL". i could be wrong, but 3 games in, is a long time to play it close to the vest.

and even if we were, it still doesn't excuse the poor play up front, or the mental errors the players have had.

clean all that up, maybe have some new things in the game plan. but i honestly believe we're going to be very patient on offense.

it will probably annoy many fans..

Oh trust me, I'm not either. If we were saving our playbook, that still doesn't mean our O line should be getting destroyed and causing us to get into nail biters with App State and Ohio.

All I am saying, is that if that is not the case, and our line is that bad, we will lose at least 4 games this season.

thanks. i'm not gonna lie, as much as i liked the play calling last year against FL for 3 & 1/3 quarters...i've not seen anything this year to get excited about.

my biggest issue is the 1st down offense. we can't make up our mind what we want to be it seems like, and we're not creating enoough mis matches.

which is something this offense is supposed to do with all the motions and reads you can get out of the same formation. we just haven't seen a ton of that so far this year.

i still think we're refusing to open up the playbook. it sounds naive and ignorant especially as close as two of these games have been to being losses but part of what makes this offense really click is being able to run many many different plays out of exactly the same formation and weve barely ran more than two out of most of them. just looking at our replays of the last couple games on offense i can see tons of different variations of plays that we may be trying to set up down the line and if someone with as limited football knowledge as myself can see those i have to believe that someone whos getting paid over $600,000 a year to be an expert on schemes can see them and execute them even more. I hope its not just blind faith, guess we'll see on saturday.

Yes, if the o line doesn't improve quickly, it will be difficult against the fronts well face against FL, aTm, Bama, MO and vandy.

Not saying we'll lose all/any of those, just that those are def fronts that could pose real problems for an o line that plays like we have.

We're gonna have to see something different in order to win, no doubt. Whether it be improved effort and execution or the "we're saving it for FL" playbook.

so, that's about all the football analyzing i'm capable of. and most of it may not be close to being right.

and in the end, in this game, there's also a lot more to it than just the "football" part of it.

there are tons of threads about who's picking who, and trash talk, and who wants it more etc, etc, etc...analysts and pundits have already started showing their hand on what they think is a ok in FL and all things wrong in TN.

and the truth is, that all does matter to this PROGRAM. i said it a lot over the off season that beating FL is a program issue, not just 118, 119 or 120's issue. it's not even CBJ's issue. he just inherited it. the sin to date, is it hasn't changed.

so going in to this game, this week, despite all the match up issues that are presented, unfortunately for team 120 and CBJ, they also get the baggage of 0-11 and 5-20.

it's compounded by all the pre season hype, the inability to live up to expectations, fair or not, and the fact that we just haven't played well.

so you take all that mounting pressure, throw in some underwhelming performances, and now the cherry on top is a ton of doubt from the fan base, pundits, and other prognosticators, and one has to wonder, how on Earth does this team ever win this game?

i siap, that Florida is the bully, and we're the bullied. but it's even a little more than that when you heap on doubt from outside, the "i told you so crowd" from the media, and fans, care as we might, really voicing their disappointment, to put it mildly.

and i'm one of those fans. so i'm not calling anyone out. i've been critical, and will probably continue to be. but i can acknowledge all this for what it is.

so back to the bully/bullied. winning this game will not only shut FL players and fans up, it will also shut me up, the media and anyone else that has a critical word for TN football. losing it...well, it will be an afterthought to the outsiders, pundits and analysts. they'll all just move on to next week. but for this program.......it'd be another gut shot, in a series of gut shots.

the pressure is on. i hope it makes this team explode, and i'd like to wake up Sunday watching and reading about what a win against FL means.

they're the bully, we're the bullied, it only ends in our favor one way.
