Total yards. Tennessee. 374. Pitt. 397

First downs. Tennessee. 20. Pitt. 24

Turn overs. Tennessee. 3. Pitt. 0

Penalty yards Tennessee. 134 Pitt. 76

The 134 yards in penalties was the second most in Tennessee history. The penalties and turn overs were the deciding factors in the game. The VOLs average 4.1 yards per carry to 2.1 for Pitt. The VOLs averaged 10.2 yards per pass completion while Pitt averaged 12. The 3 turn overs were the most costly while our blocked punt only took 2 seconds off the clock but was a quick 7 points. Point is, we should have won this ball game and I think we will still win at least 6-7 games this year.

If anyone wants something tangible to gnash their teeth on, you need to be wary of penalties.

UCF ave 8.5 penalties per game for 70 yards while CJH was coach. I would not like to see him bring that to UT from his former team.

Hat tip to @dduncan4163

There are effort penalties and STUPID penalties. I understand that trash talk and alpha male behavior can rattle an opponent, but the WWE body slam (Banks) and unnecessary roughness (Cade May I think) were costly. Sucks to be first and goal at the five and then having to hit a 48 yard field goal. This team needs more discipline in that department. Banks did get yanked after his slam, but he didn't stay out long.

Man I thought it was atrocious that no flags were called in that 1st quartwr. As many deep balls he threw, least 1 or 2 was def borderline PI I have to watch replay.Seems they called a foul damn near anytime we got momentum. From outright saying no td when Wright was halfway sideways in the endzone. Most get benefit of the doubt esp in that scenario.Jackson fg punt return was garbage hell everyone had a block in the back.Banks is a missile but it prob cost us this game between the personal stuff and the block in the back on return which he really didn't brush dude hard petty job.One game I can 100% say we lost on our own,Pitt did not win they took advantage of our loss basically.Proud of the team fought like hell til the end, growing up learning to fight for each other.I like it hope they continue to get better.

Man I really really wanna know why Heupel chose Milton over Hooker.Hookef has his issues but still is light years better with the offense.Had he started BG I truly believe he had played better this game.Need reps,Hooker prob that guy for now.Depemds on Milton, but I hope its hookers job to lose.

No, the point is that we could have won this ball game but did not, because Pitt could have won it and did.

Jeremy Banks accounted for like 75% of those lol
Do a little math. I counted almost a dozen OL holding calls, #3 similar tackles, one with a flag thrown that resulted in a no call. Loud axe U R grindin. I bet on 4th and short you have a jumbo package. an offensive minded guy running it , the conversation is different.. Tell the QB under center to hand it to the 230 Lb tailback following the 260 LB fullback on short yardage situations. Not to mention the Laurel and Hardy act in Stripped shirts. High school officials manage a better game without multiple camera angles. Hater alert. All the penalties were bad.... Butt, lots of blame to go around there. A Heck of a game with a higher ranked well coached team. The Old COACH was was probably proud.

You could talk about a lot of things that changed the game, but usually if you're -3 in turnovers you're not gonna win.

I gotta ask, would Pruitt have won this game with the players that left minus JG, and I say yes.

No way on earth. Pruitt’s offense was abysmal. How many games did we score 34 points with Pruitt as coach? He was a terrible coach. Heupel may fail here. We’ve played two games, and we may still not have a QB.

BUT, Pruitt doesn’t win this game with Milton, Hooker, Bailey, Shrout, or Maurer starting.
