Is how fundamentally poor we are at tackling. My level of anger and yelling during a game is generally proportional to my expectation of a win. So for BYU I was fired up throughout. Vesuse Florida...not so much. But against Georgia I was yelling my head off at how bad our tackling was. The play where Shamburger runs up to Herrion and literally tries to tackle him without use of his arms. Of course he just bounced off. He looked like the knight from monty python after his arms had been cut off. I think he caught up with him and missed him a second time on the same play. I just don't understand how we can be SO bad at tackling in space.

Still not strong enough or deep enough on DL, them guys have got to get stronger and tougher and we need more talent and depth there. The O-Line is getting better, if they continue to improve next year the O-Line may actually become a strength. Linebackers are young overall but talented, our secondary has a ways to go but with no pass rush you can't put all the blame on them. The D-Line is where I am most concerned, we simply have to get better there or we will continue to struggle against the best teams. GBO!

I get DAMN tired of watching Linebackers have to run up and slap various D-lineman on the ass, like a mule, to get them to line up properly.

THAT is MY...

Coaching.

If the defensive guru, millionaire HC won't do it, at least the LB's will.

Tennessee is the only common denominator in all of our garbage defenses. Coaches and players come and go. I don't understand.

The secondary as a positional unit, not lining up properly as a complete defensive unit. There have been issues with every group in this respect.

This isnt just current coaches. If you go back the last several years we have had guys trying to shoulder bump guys to the ground.
Totally agree...player development apparently is a optional section on our Coaching Application.

What linebackers? We lost 3 the past two weeks.

Bituli is gone after this season.
Non-factor D Taylor as well.
D Johnson, Allen, Bennet are non-factors.

Henry T and Crouch are the future.
Not sure what's going on with Harrison.

Peterson...

We desperately need to recruit JUCO and High School LBs THIS cycle...

Why do these coaches go somewhere else and then be awesome then though? Chavis, Shoop, Wilcox, etc all have went on to be highly successful other places. Here it’s like the damn Bermuda Triangle of coaching, everything you know you forget.

Expectations? I have no idea...but you make a great point.

The guys on UT's defense are just physically inferior to most of their SEC opponents.
--The DL can't get off blocks, can't consistently hold their ground vs a power running game, and are unable to put any pressure on the QB
--LBs are OK but still too young and there is no depth, and the
--DBs struggle to tackle in space and cannot play press coverage so they play very soft and give up 10-15 yd passes over getting beat deep.

To top it off, they still struggle to line up correctly and bust too many coverages leaving WRs wide open running down the middle of the field and they don't tackle particularly well either. Other than that, they are OK

It's the players, not the coach. Obviously they coached the guys up enough to be able to correct the players lining up wrong. Some people just don't get it
You are right...some people just don’t get it.

I really don’t understand how we got to the point where so many refuse to hold the professional football coach responsible for the repeated mistakes of the amateur student athletes.

Although it wasn't as terrible in the first quarter of the GA game, the thing I hate most about our defense is how our defensive line is generally hammered downfield for at least 3-6 yards by the end of the play. Also, I hate we don't have one consistent pass rusher on the entire team.

So.......your saying, leadership should at least sometimes be held accountable?

Huh........I never made the connection.

Sometimes I wonder if a bunch of determined women could out tackle UT’s D?
