Merge if necessary...

Caller on 3 Hour Lunch has confirmed that Brian Kimbrow is indeed committing to Vanderbilt next Friday. A press conference is being set up for July 1st. There was also mentioning of 2 other Nashville area recruits Batey and Azubike will also be committing.

What the caller also said, is that he is unsure about Bowles and Jelks.

I don't see any chance that Vandy has in pulling Bowles. He is Tennesse bound IMO.

More on this topic that I'm not sure has really been brought up. There's alot of grunting about the recruiting "success" that Vandy is having. Kimbro going to Vandy is huge for their program, and him not going to UT is really huge in the notion that we might have an in-state competitor that we might be fighting with fairly soon. It's making some of you nervous. I'm not nervous about it, I think it's very healthy for the state of Tennessee. Something that we've been lacking is true competition on an in-state level. We always chalk up a W when looking at Vandy on our schedule, and while the games can be somewhat exciting to watch between the two, we always know it ends with a W in our favor. The next few seasons might drastically change the landscape in Tennessee. Though Vandy will have to keep the momentum going for it to do so, however if they do, we as fans can expect some true in-state rivalry games (such as your Florida/FSU, Auburn/BAMA, Georgia/GT). This is something we havent really had but it will make the tradition of playing one of our oldest "rivals" alot more rich.

I'm excited for Vandy football and hope they continue to do well, so maybe they can bring some heat our way. It will make us better, and maybe down the road you will get nationally televised games of UT/Vandy that gets as much attention as the ones previously mentioned. You don't have to be a florida or fsu fan to watch their rivalry game....you just do it because its so big.

Losing top in-state recruits is painful, but there is always a bright side to it. We will just have to wait and see if Vandy can eventually back it up on the field, and see if they can be consistent with it all.

Thank you for the information and your insight. I agree with you. I, personally, would like to see a more competitive Tennessee-Vanderbilt rivalry.

To quote Woody Hayes.... "If it ain't hard to get, it ain't worth a damn."

Well when we are good enough to win all of our games easily and need some competition to entertain ourselves, then i'm fine with adding another strong SEC team. As it stands now we are already having enough trouble clawing our way back into SEC contention.

Why would Brain K. want to go to Vandy over Tennessee I don't see what it is? Last time I heard was he was more then likely going to Tennessee did something happen?

The guy works at D1, a training facility in Nashville. Has met James Franklin and knows Kimbrow personally. Said Kimbrow is coming to Nashville on Wednesday to get the preparations in order. The guy seemed like he was sure but yes, of course we will have to wait and see.

We don't want him. Character issues.

This is the mentality that drives me nuts.

Do you really think Brian Kimbrow would have had an attitude problem with the UT coaches (ALLEGEDLY) if he REALLY wanted to come to UT? Would he have been rude to the coaching staff (ALLEGEDLY) if he really wanted to impress them enough to accept his commitment?

PLEASE.

If this is the case, it should be completely clear that Brian Kimbrow was NOT interested in UT. The people that say "We didn't want him anyway" are just saying that to make themselves feel better. If Kimbrow REALLY wanted to come to UT, he would have acted like it. Don't act like he wouldn't have or accuse him of being a bad dude, either. Character assasination of HS kids is not an endearing quality.

If what allegedly happened, then it's completely appropriate that the UT coaching staff cool on him. It's not an insult to say that it wasn't a good fit for either party. Just because BK grew up within the state borders means that it was his athletic destiny to go to UT.

This is humourous. The meltdown hath begun. Excuses and hand-washing abound.

No he doesn't. That caller was Byron De'vinner. He's a latcher on from Murfreesboro and went on visits with Kimbrow and Redmond. Others probably know more about him. The reviews aren't positive. He's the one organizing the "big announcement". It's Kimbrow, Batey, and Azubike. He said a couple others but also said he was unsure about Bowles and Jelks.

And he's right...he is a elite prospect with game changing speed...

At Bama, UF, Auburn, UT he is a dangerous player...at Vandy he will get beat down every week for 4 years...

I think's it's supremely arrogant of him to think he would make that much of a difference at the perennial doormat that is Vandy

I remember just a few weeks ago, an article was posted here that said as of right now, Vandy was his #1 choice.

I appreciate the well thought out post. The fact still remains that he can't come to UT because we don't want him.

I'll bet he acted the same way at Vandy's camp, but they're freaking Vanderbilt. They can't pass on him like we can. He is not the highest running back on our board, and we will get someone better.

There's also some things going on in his recruitment the staff doesn't want to deal with. I guess Vandy does.

I must've misheard on the D1 thing but yes, basically stated everything you mentioned. What about these not positive reviews?

The point being, Kimbrow isn't worth the time or effort from UT's standpoint. He's talented and he's from TN. Other than that nothing puts him above any other RB on our board. Hell, Jovon Robinson would be an ever better get for the Vols. 5'6 165 4.25 40 < 6'1 215 4.4 40. Especially in the SEC.
