Former walk-on receives PFF's highest grade for Tennessee against Florida

Look, I know we have already ALL eaten a bunch of CJ crow (myself included). But we cannot eat enough crow for how well CJ played saturday. PFF (which I heard cited in an NFL game the other day, getting some real cred) graded CJ as our best defensive player against the Gators. The dude is legit starting to play like a beast.

Of course DKjr is a better and more proven player. But CJ isnt nearly as big a drop off as we thought. The young man deserves our respect and trust moving forward, for sure.

If DK cant come back for an extended time frame Jumper will again earn his stripes over the next 3 weeks or so.

I think a lot of folks myself included are coming around to supporting him

You guys think we would try to get Colton and JRM both in at times if JRM comes back healthy? If nothing else CJ is now quality, proven depth.

I'll give him props for his play against the Gators. But there would be no need for serving up crow if CJ had shown that level of play during any of his other starts or PT.

He deserved the knock that he wasn't a SEC caliber MLB based on that play. If he wants that opinion to completely disappear then he must be consistent, if not then he will end up with "one game" wonder label.

His biggest play came on UF's 1st drive of the 2nd half. 3rd and 1 and he hits the ball carrier high to stop him falling forward to get the 1st down. As amazing as a tackle as that was, the more impressive part was that he shed an O-line blocker to get there. Just pushed the blocker into the dirt on his way to make the tackle. I've been critical on CJ for a while, mainly bc I've never seen him make a play like that. He was reacting to plays and not thinking about them.

:rock:Few people mention the Cotton Jumper heritage of UT. Grandfather was a brother of Tom Jumper who played guard at UT 1951 (National Championship) and 1952. Tom Jumper started as a sophomore, played 6 games and tore up a knee. Came back the next year and tore up the other knee. The back up guards included John Michaels...Cotton Jumper has the heritage of UT football. Glad he chose UT as a walk-on and payed his own way.

It's stories like this that should make fans take pause before blasting these kids.

Same thing happened to Josh Smith. As a freshman he had a few drops and VN was ready pull his schollie. Then he came back strong as a Soph and has since proven to be one of our most reliable guys.

CJ may not be as talented but his knowledge and discipline makes up for a lot of that.

i have a feeling JRM is going to be out for a good while. Coming into a game to only play a couple of plays is always a bad sign

IMO Jumper's biggest contributions came before the snap. I've not watched the TV replay yet to see if they mention it but several times pre-snap he would correct guys that lined up incorrectly and get them where they needed to be.

I wonder if you hold yourself and your family to the same sort of standard.
