Tennessee's John Majors and Vanderbilt football coach Bobby Johnson will play in the April 20 golf tournament sponsored by the University of Georgia chapter of the National Football Foundation. ... Tennessee All-America linebacker Al Wilson, captain of Tennessee's 1998 national championship team and later a star linebacker with the Denver Broncos, will be inducted into the Jackson, Tenn. Sports Hall of Fame April 20. ... The Tennessee Lady Vols 2009 basketball team failed to finish in the Top 25 for the first time since USA Today began administering the women's poll in 1994-95. Tennessee was eliminated from the NCAA tournament in the first round when ranked No. 23.
Fulmer wants to coach
Fired Tennessee football coach Phil Fulmer says he'd like to be a head coach again but tells The Sporting News he wouldn't consider any school that wasn't committed to winning championships. "I'm also interested in the television opportunities that have presented themselves and some things in the business world," Fulmer said. "I'm in the process of evaluating what I will do." ...
Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt will receive the WNBA's Inspiring Coach Award this summer. In 35 seasons at Tennessee, Summitt has won more than 1,000 games and eight national championships. ... Ex-Vol basketball player Lang Wiseman, 37, has been named Republican Party chairman in Shelby County (Memphis). Wiseman was the SEC All-Sports Academic Player of the year in 1993.
