The things have been up for WEEKS in 10 cities. Yet Boston is the only one that thinks it's Armageddon. That my friends is the definition of paranoid.

Not to mention they had already been up for a week in Boston, and one day someone just freaked out.

Did anyone hear the conversation that the 2 guys that were arrested had with the media? It was very much like the show- an off-the-wall discussion about 70's hairdo's and which ones were better than the others.

You know...this has been a topic of a lot of discussions around here for the last several days. My opinion is that it obviously seems like an over-reaction in retrospect. But, I think that the reaction is a little more understandable if viewed from the perspective that the authorities were acting on limited information at first. They obviously hadn't seen the devices for days and then suddently got scared. They were alerted to the device (a box with lights and wires...well ... in a 911 dispatch office, that would alert me..I don't know about you). Once the alert went up on the transit systems because of the call...things developed quickly as other boxes were discovered and bridges that they were located on, subway stops, bus routes etc had to be shut down while the situation was dealt with. IMO, the authorities were trying to make sense of the information they were being given ... and were following there emergency procedures for suspicious devices...until they figured out it wasn't dangerous. Things actually calmed down very quickly once things were determined to be safe.

Also, I don't know about the innocence of the guys who placed the devices. There is surveilance footage of one of the guys videotaping the police response (and bomb squad) to one of the devices. There is some question as to whether or not he knew it was for his device (he is a videographer/artist who documents random things) ... but I think it is a bit suspicous. I wonder exactly how the city became alerted to the devices .... was it him .... I really don't know (it might be published that it wasn't...I haven't anything either way).

I think that to truly evaluate the response, though, you have to place yourself in the position of making decisions, on the spur of them moment, that affect the lives of literally thousands of citizens. It's not easy...and Boston is a city that has been targeted in several suspected terror plots...so they are a bit more on edge than, say, Knoxville.

This bit of evidence could be huge. I would imagine, they can trace where the calls alerting the authorities came from as well.

Are people up there pissed at these guys for their attitude about the whole thing?

There really isn't that much support for those guys. Supposing that they didn't alert the authorities about "suspicious" devices...then there reaction alone was enough to make people not care about them too much (but I also don't think anyone wants them thrown into the slammer for a long time ... which is possible). On the other hand, if they made the phone call..or had something to do with it...I think that public opinion would be very negative.
