Monte has looked pretty good coaching our defense. I think he must be a heck of a coach. He seems to have the players' respect, has a lot of energy, enjoys the game...

Any chance Monte will be named head coach in-waiting in order to hang onto him? Lane's got to hang it up eventually....

I'll hang up and listen...

And, oh yeah...Go Vols...Beat the lowly Alabama Crimson Tide!!

Monte Kiffin was a head coach at North Carolina State from '80-82, he has said consistently that he doesn't want to go back to being a head coach and loves being a defensive coordinator.

No way. He's at the tail end of his career. By the time Lane's done here, Monte will be at least 75 yrs old. This is his last stop and we need to just hope he stays on as DC as long as Lane is HC.

Monte won't be coaching more than a handful of years. Why would you make a head-coach-in-waiting for a guy that's one of the youngest in the nation? To me, that would say that we don't have confidence in our young coach, so we're going to make an old man his soon-to-be successor.

Head coach in-waiting is a title you give to a guy when your coach is minutes from retirement or death from old age.

I don't know about that. I think that Monte has about 30 more years in him.

Gotta lock him down.

Great post, I totally agree.

Just give him Lane's salary on top of what hes makin. That ought to do it.

Thank you. Every other school has a head coach in-waiting. I want one to...and I think that Monte would make a fine one. We have to hang onto him. I say we promise him 4 mil a year by 2020 if Lane hasn't turned over the reigns yet.

All you guys that don't want him to be head coach in-waiting are just haters. You can just go hang out with posi and 5150.

Griff would be licking his chops for this to happen. It would probably bring a tear to his eye of all the slam blogs he could write on "Money" Monte Kiffin.
