All i see on other boards is how can Monte leave a 2.2 mill job for a much lower paying.

And some are saying UT couldnt be paying much more then 500k to a DC

I beg to differ.... And heres why

We might have gone up to and over 4 or 4.5 mill for a Cower or Gruden. And still have to pay a DC on top of that

So we get Lane between 2.0 or 3...pay Monte 2.0 and UT is at or under their max to pay a HBC to start with

Maybe we are seeing the start of something new...""hiring a package!""

A team with a 111 ranked D hires Phill cause they know Chavis will come also.

À la carte the Package Hire

Monte will make far less than 2 million..He has NFL benefits now. He wont demand that much money.

Monte is coming for his sons stability nothing else. He doesnt want Lane to struggle like he did in Oakland. Monte is taking an extreme paycut which is why they will be able to land Orgeron as well to coach the D-Line.

Maybe not... but I would say UT will set the bar higher for coordinator pay.

Great...we hire a HBC in the SEC that needs stability. Does a Stoops type need stability?

Kiffin doesn't have a buyout. He is currently unemployed.

I think that he's talking about Monte's buyout. But, still, I don't think he has a buyout. I don't think that assistant NFL coaching contracts (or at least his) are structured that way.

I heard Monte was eligible for the NFL pension. If thats the case and he retires from the NFL, could he still get the pension if he came here? He's 68, and he's said he always wanted to coach with his son, this would be the time.

My understanding is that his pension is secure - he just has to deal with the Tampa Bay ownership with regard to walking away from his contract. TB can't come after UT since they are a college team, but they can come after him in court...which they have threatened to do to other assistants in the past, which kept them from leaving.

TB owners should be ashamed if they come after Monte.

They wouldn't let a lower-level assistant leave to be with his father-in-law, I think, or some family member to coach. They have always been an organization that is very serious about their contracts...

...with that said, all of this talk makes me think that it has been worked out.

How many more years is on his contract? I also thought with retiring, theres nothing they could bring against you legally.

I'd think it would be different when your only a few years away from retiring anyway.

He is under contract with TB for 2 more years, I think. If he retires before that time - then I think he is in breach of contract. That wouldn't affect his pension, since it is an NFL pension, but TB could take it to court....they wouldn't win...but they could cost Monte some money in the process...
