Here's an article by the local Mizzu beat writer analyzing Saturday's game I thought I'd share with VN.

Also, I thought it was interesting that he hints at a possible upset.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Tennessee has the better offense and special teams. Missouri has the better defense. You could argue Missouri also has more to play for. Tennessee has already clinched bowl eligibility. Missouri needs one more win for bowl eligibility. Plus, Saturday will be Coach Gary Pinkel’s final home game. An interesting in-game matchup will be Missouri’s sturdy run defense against Tennessee’s solid rushing attack. The Tigers’ offense performed somewhat better in last Saturday’s 20-16 win over BYU. Was that a blip on the radar or a sign of legitimate progress? I would think it was the former, but if it’s the latter and if Missouri’s offense continues to gain some momentum Saturday, then an upset isn’t out of the question.

Plus, here is a commentator discussing the betting odds that not only picks Mizzu to cover but to get the outright upset...

This game will be played in Columbia, and I think the home field advantage will help the Missouri Tigers keep things close with the Vols in this one. The Tigers haven’t been great against conference opponents this season, but they haven’t been getting blown out regularly. Missouri is playing with a lot of emotion after learning about their head coach’s lymphoma, and I’m expecting that to continue on Saturday against the Volunteers. The Missouri Tigers will find a way to come up with an upset win in Pinkel’s swan song at Memorial Stadium.

An upset is highly possible. Mizzou is at home in Pinkel's last home game. Will probably be a sellout and they will be amped up. However, none of that will matter if the typical Mizzou offense shows up.

seeing how Matty Mauk was awful for Mizzou with the exception of 2 games against us, it would make perfect sense for them to turn the corner RIGHT NOW.

We should be on upset alert. I know we're better on paper but this Mizzou team has a ton of emotion on their side right now.

Yes it would. I fully expect their D to look like the '85 Bears and for the light to come on for freshman QB Lock so that he immediately puts himself in the early discussions for the 2016 Heisman race. Yes......I, like you, continue to suffer from Battered Vol Syndrome.

I remember when Tom Osborne told his players that he was retiring and we got spanked but also was playing for NC. Missouri is not playing for NC but sucks that they have extra motivation.

I know that we better withstand the first waive of emotion. And go out and skin those tigers!

Please don't remind me of that game...

It wouldnt have mattered if Osbourne would have announced retirement or not. That Nebraska team was the best in the country and would have blown Michigan out of the water.

Thousands of tickets available on the secondary market. The forecast is 23 degrees for kick off. There are new student protests this week and I think most of their fans have already checked out.

I also think the writer was saying it would be an upset if Tn were to win... Lol

I hear administration has declared the QB spot a safe zone so nothing can be said or done to make him feel threatened.

KB there hasn't been a "safe space" for Vol fans in a long time. I also fear the worst for this game.

Hope the Vols put those fears to rest Saturday!

Hope UT wins the coin toss takes the ball first and Evan Berry takes one 100 yards - that shuts them up in a hurry

You could call me a sunshine pumper but this game actually worries me. The Pinkel situation being the only reason.

You do realize that they write drivel as this to pander to the masses and encourage page clicks.

Beat the **** out of Missouria and Vandy to then get a great bowl game. Crucial stretch for Butch. 7-5. Is still progress but there are no excuses for not going 8-4.

You're not alone. I think a lot of folks see the Pinkel thing as kind of a wildcard.

Agreed. The mood around here over the long off season will be so much better if we can close out 8-4. Next week may be intolerable if the unthinkable does happen. It won't be pretty after the game if TN doesn't find a way to get the win.

I was reading some of the Mizzou message boards today (which by the way, the sum of them even fall far short of VN) and a few posters made mention that Pinkel put himself on the wrong side of the protests and resulted in the unfair and unnecessary resignation of their president. I think that CGP in just as polarizing a figure as he is a uniting one.

We seem to have an awful habit of making backups look like first rounders. Missouri is set to get some soaking rain with a nasty cold front not far behind. May be tough sledding Saturday night.
