Rivals.com College Football - Whispers: Will Bellotti coach? Look to Spring

Vols staff not full after all?
Word is that former Syracuse and Minnesota offensive coordinator Mitch Browning is weighing an offer to join Tennessee's staff.

The kicker: Browning would have to come on board as a graduate assistant because there are no full-time spots left.

Browning would be paid by Syracuse, which signed him to a multiyear deal when he came aboard before this past season.

For now, Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney doubles as the line coach. If the Vols can lure Browning, it would be a huge coup. He is a veteran line coach who built some powerful offenses at Minnesota under Glen Mason.

Interesting!

so now we're getting coaches to come for free? I like it (and I'm sure MH does too)

Who would have thought we could trade in Jim Bob Cooter for Mitch Browning??

:eek:hmy:

There are some on this board who are not happy the Cooter and the other GA's were let go...

I am not one of them though, good riddance I say.

This would be huge to get an experienced coach to come in as a GA. This staff is stacked already...this would just put it on a ridiculous level.

Maybe Steve Logan has some time to kill as well.

I have never heard of something like this happening. What kind of salary does/could a grad assistant make?

Comes to UT as a GA and another school gets to pay his salary for the next couple years. Sah-weet.

How does that work? Does he really get paid? Sorry I hope it works out, but I'm not sure how it would work..

Syracuse has to honor his contract...and from all reports it was a multiyear deal...

This would definitely be unusual, but sweet. What kind of a statement would that make that coaches are willing to join Kiffins staff for free? I like it!

cool.. thanks for the info.. I assume it is a deal like our coaches had.. They would get less if they took on a position that paid the same.. So he would get the full amount due to the fact that he wouldn't be an actual coach here.. he would be a GA instead.. Wow that would be freaking Genius if that is the case.. now I know why everyone keeps posting "I love it!!" H@ll I love it too now..:dance2:
