Leach to miss state | TexAgs

Not again!!!! Leach kicked our but for years at Tech. He was 7-3 against us.

One day years ago, listening to sports radio in Houston, a caller mentioned the Ags had not beat Tech in Lubbock since his daughter was born. The host responded by asking how old his daughter was. His response was 14.

How does that happen?????

I loved Leach...when he was 1600 miles away and we never had to play him,

Gonna go ahead and pencil that in as a loss next year

The main impression I take away (from the press conference) is that Leach loves the college experience. He's a pure coach that highly values the notion of college athletics and all that comes with it (education, cultural experiences, the college-town experience). Starkville (isolated college town) is a good fit for him (similar to Lubbock and Pullman).

I'd be pumped as hell if I was a Miss St fan.

Eight future or current HCs on Leach's 2001 Texas Tech staff/program.

This staff included:
  • Mike Leach: head coach (Texas Tech, Washington State, Mississippi State)
  • Art Briles: RB coach (Houston, Baylor)
  • Sonny Dykes: WR coach (Louisiana Tech, Cal, SMU)
  • Dana Holgorsen: IWR coach (West Virginia, Houston)
  • Dave Aranda: graduate assistant (Baylor)
  • Kliff Kingsbury: starting QB (Texas Tech, Arizona Cardinals)
  • Ruffin McNeil: LB coach (East Carolina)
  • Greg McMackin: DC (Hawaii)
And just missing the cut is Lincoln Riley who wouldn't arrive at Tech until 2002, the same year Aranda left to be the LB coach at Houston.

That is a pretty impressive list!

That's a better tree than Fulmer's.
