Mike Martz...Speaking to UT officals (RUMOR)

As with most of these "inside sources", I call BS. Martz would be a HORRIBLE hire.

"horrible hire." The guy is considered by all to have one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. Given what we have, he's be a GIGANTIC step up in x's/o's brainpower. Now, there are other considerations--eagerness to recruit, age, etc. But the man knows offense--and good gawd, if there is anything the Vols need it is somebody who can organize and run a smart offense.

he is not a good head coach...that is why he was never offered another HC position in the NFL despite his decent resume (on paper)...

he abandoned the run when Marshall Faulk was still a great back and consistently made poor decisions.

You have to be able to recruit and teach to be able to run any offense let alone a complicated one like Martz does. He is a little old in my book to hit the recruiting trail and connect with H.S kids.

also, anyone who has watched the NFL this year and asked themselves "why the hell is JT O'Sullivan a starting QB in the NFL?"......mike martz is that reason...

Just because you say so doesn't make it true.

The same can be said for your thought that it isn't true.

Get off the Cowher thing it's not going to happen. There is no logic in thinking Cowher who lives in NC will even consider coaching in college. Unless we can pull Davis and UNC makes him an offer.

So, by your logic, the only coach who will take the Vol job has to be living in Tennessee presently?

No but Cowher left the Steelers to be with his family in NC. Why would he consider moving for less money than he could make in the NFL?

This is not an endorsement for CPF.

But your assumption is absolutely not true.

Hyperbole rarely is -- but I assumed everyone would see through that.

On the other hand, any change right now will renew interest, hopefully our players commitment, and create some buzz around UT.

Sometimes a simple change can be helpful, even if in the long-run the new coach isn't any better than CPF.

He was the OC/HC for that incredible offense the Rams had in 1999-2001.
