Mike Leach describes conversations with Tennessee in 2017: 'It was like something out of Shakespeare'

Meh, I'm probably the only one but Im glad that didn't happen. I would have taken him over Pruitt at the time, but I'm happy with Pruitt now.
I'm there with you. I'd love to see Leach in Knoxville in some kind of alternate reality just out of curiosity, but I'm glad it didn't actually happen. His time here would be extremely entertaining and drama-filled, to be sure.

Also, if Leach himself just described the situation as a coup, it makes me wonder just how interested he was in the job anyway. Kind of like Gundy. Do you really want to work under an AD who you think is trying to be brought down by forces behind the scenes?

Leach would have very entertaining; and the offense would have been something to behold. BUT; you can't outscore every team on your schedule, and Leach doesn't worry about Defense. We got the right guy.
False, WSU was the 27th ranked defense in the country in a high scoring PAC 12, much higher than UT. His defenses are better than people give him credit for.

I would have preferred Leach given the chance. His offense is much more fun to watch and he would have a higher ceiling here than Pruitt. We just aren’t going to beat Alabama or UGA running the same type offense but with less talent.

Correctomundo. Sadly, I think a lot of folks are beat down to the point that they really believe 9 or 10 wins is the ceiling until the tops programs have to replace their head coaches. I'd rather be a 8-4 pirate than a 9-3 Bama-lite.

The pirate would have given Smart and Saban fits every game.

Same thing here...on one hand, I guess there's no other topics to dredge up, but I guess, even though we've been in crash-test-dummy mode for past 10 years, we're still relevant enough of a brand name that people like to talk about us.

We didn't need a entertainer, but a coach that would bring us back tp where we need to be on the SEC. You are right, we did get the right coach. Give CJP another couple of years, and he should have the VOLS where we should be. GO VOLS

Curry had to go. On Leach, 15 yrs ago when Big 12 was a Power/Run first conference, Leach had some entertaining 7-8 win teams, but that was ceiling. I think Pruitt has model to put us back toward top of SEC, but he's gotta recruit better, with that model/style.

Just glad it wasn't this guy...Called the President personally and tweeted a lot about this And now where are the "Tenn fans are idiots and ignorant rants" that rejected him?..Hmmm Herbie.." In February 2019, it was announced that Schiano would not be returning to Ohio State. It was reported that he was hired to join the New England Patriots as their defensive coordinator, but prior to the Patriots confirming this report,[19] Schiano unexpectedly resigned from the Patriots on March 28, citing a desire to spend more time on his "faith and family."

I think Leach would have been successful in Knoxville. He has a great offensive mind and his defenses are under rated because everyone thinks of his offense. With SEC talent he could recruit, plus being an excellent developer of talent, he would have been a nightmare match up for opponents. As far as fans saying you can't out score everyone, look at every team that has beaten Ala in the past 5 - 7 years and you will see they are almost always beaten by high scoring teams. Nobody out defenses them.

And with very limited resources to hire defensive coaches. Leach is one of the greatest football coaches in CFB history. He has consistently gotten more with less.

The only downside is that it's typically taken him a few years to get things going and SEC fanbases aren't known for their patience.

Might wanna check your facts, dude. The only 7 win teams Leach had at Texas Tech were his first two. He won 8-11 games every year afterwards at one of the weakest programs in the Big 12 and with much lesser talent than Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and A&M.

And when he faces the top teams in his conference he gets shut down anyway. Only scored 15 in their loss at home to Washington last year, which was also Leach’s sixth loss in a row to them.

I am with you. The only way I would want Leach in Knoxville is as an offensive coordinator.
