B/c new england didn't win all those rings b/c of Charlie Weis. They won because of bellicheck, vinatieri and a kick ass defense. their offenses were competent at best. Cowher was one of the best coaches in the nfl for 15 years

Our defense has been pretty darn good this year... at least for the first 40 minutes they are on the field.

Before we get into a war of words here I'm not saying that Cowher can't do the job. I just wonder that with the amount of $ it will take to get him here could we not get a coach that already had NCAA experience? I just personally like Petersen because of what he has done in his years at Boise St. I heard today he is 31-3 in his tenure. I know they don't play the toughest teams but he is young and would bring a new fire to the program. Just my .02.

None. That being said I think the ideal situation would be to get them to come to you!

Cowher gives or would give you that very big advantage.

I agree with this statement. Alot of kids would be drawn to his name alone.

Chris Peterson would be an awful choice. He'd be slightly below Tommy Bowden on a list of coaches that should be contacted for the job.

I can't believe some people on here. Petersen over Cowher? Cowher would be an awful choice?

I really hope Mike Hamilton goes all out on this hire. I'd love to have Bill Cowher.

I don't really care who Mike hires as long as it helps to get UT pointed in the right direction. If it is Cowher,Petersen,Kiffen,Davis or someone I failed to name I think that all Vol fans will get behind them 100%.

Belichick was and still is the mastermind of the Pats. He is the reason why the fat man at ND has a Superbowl ring.

No doubt that Bill is the man in NE. I was just saying that a SB ring does not mean you will have sucess in the NCAA thats all.

Agreed, Petersen over a NFL Superbowl winning head coach is absurd.

A number of guys could succeed here. I think he's one of them.

I understand, but I would still take Cowher in a second. Nothing is guaranteed, but I would think the odds of being successful with a Superbowl winning Hc would increase dramatically.

The difference, Charlie Weis was an offensive coordinator for 8 years with the Jets, & Patriots.

Bill Cowher was a Head Coach for 15 years.

Not to forget, Bill Cowher took the Steelers to the AFC Championship SIX times, while going to two Superbowls.

In 2004 his team went 15-1 during the regular season.

In 2005 his team won the Superbowl.

Chris Peterson inherited a good program. Not sure how he would handle a program that needs to be retooled. Unfortunately thats the situation he would inherit.

Not that I am endorsing Peterson but he did not inherit a good program. He was the one who built it for 3 yrs before Hawkins ran to Colorado. In case you have not noticed Hawkins is failing and Peterson has Boise in the top 10 in the BCS.

Which is the exact reason we shouldn't look at a coach from Boise State unless everyone else says no.

Then what... we should just settle for less?

My take is that Cowher and Gruden should at least have the opportunity to turn down the job if they are not coming here.

What's the point of not trying? Because it may not seem likely? Who cares. We should offer the best coach available, and that man is Bill Cowher. Case closed.
