-UT has given up 15 passes longer than 20 yards. LSU is the only SEC team that has given up more.
-UT gave up 30 of these plays in 13 games last season.
-Opposition has thrown just 7 times to the left side of the D, completing 3 for 23 yds
-Middle and right side, not good. Vols have given up 428 yards on 33/47 passing.
-Middle against USCj, targeted 17 times with 11 completions for 176 yards and a touchdown. With Shamburger back, D targeted six times for five completions and 111 yards — 57 coming after the catch.
-Banks targeted 8 times for 7 catches/77 yds and a TD.

Yuck.

That is just ugly.

I'm sure JP will get it right.

Pass defense and poor LB play from Banks & Crouch are the biggest concerns on defense right now.

I think this is obvious to anyone paying attention. What bothers me is that there doesn't seem to be any improvement in these areas. Set aside any physical shortcomings, these guys just don't seem to be learning anything mental about playing the game at these positions. Usually on replays you can see no understanding of where they should go or be to make a decent defensive play.

Who plays CB for us that's shutting down the left side?

Good info. Banks should not be in pass coverage.
Do are Cb’s play one side the majority of the time? I believe Taylor is giving up more completions than Thompson if my memory serves me right.

Got any suggestions for cloning HT. Pass coverage was Bituli"s knock as well. While you guys may have a point I am not seeing the defense as being the major weakness in this team.

They are not the biggest weakness (QB & o line come to mind), but they need to play better. Secondary has given up many passes over the middle of the field for big gains through our first three games. There is certainly room for improvement for Crouch and Banks. Our defensive line has performed well.

They seem to be chronically out of position on nearly every play.

Honestly Banks is just not good, and more liable for a dumb penalty than an impactful play.

If he's that bad and the best we've got I'm very concerned.

Yeah it is. Almost cost us the SC game. It was a problem all last season and will continue to be this season. We have 2 converted RBs playing LB that cannot cover the pass. Crouch has looked ok at times. Wish he'd go back to RB sometimes though

HT has good instincts and makes a few good plays each game. However he missed one easy tackle each the last two games which resulted in big running plays. Right now we are not a good tackling team. Giving way too many yards after the first contact. Tyler Baron also needs to go thru tackling drills.

We need tough Rb’s. Move Crouch and Banks back to offense and play the Whitehaven trio at Rb and Safety. They may be raw but the learning curve will be faster.

Thompson has primarily played safety this season. Taylor is largely responsible for the success on the left side.

Wow . . . I knew it had been a struggle, but that's awful.
