Dept. of Education: Title IX applies to athlete pay
The direct payment plans that many major college athletic departments are making for athletes would violate Title IX law, according to a Department of Education memo.www.espn.com
Nike is involved. Nike pumps money into Oregon, Meatchicken, an Ohio State University, and Bama.So $29M of the $50M is for expanded scholarship offerings for student athletes in all programs. That’s largely the university paying itself, unless they’re offering scholarships larger than tuition board and fees, so the students can “buy books” or something.
