Phil could still be the Coach IF he had only handled the OC coach Hire properly after Cut left. Insecurity did him in; and He was never going to have to worry about his job as long as he kept winning 9-10 Games.
But did he really get the opportunity to make a proper OC hire? Or was he hamstrung with low $$$ to offer and had to settle?

Just hope his skill set fits the AD job. It seems to be working to this point. I believe he has better administration support than athletics did 10 to 15 years ago. Athletics had to survive the Jimmy Cheeks, Hamiltons, Donnies, Konzos, San Francisco feminists, Butches and many other clowns and anti athletics people.
No doubt in my mind that he is best AD we've had in a long while. And, you are correct that he has better administration support, but he has had to rally that support and has done a great job doing so. What has been missing for so long has been support from top to bottom for football program and Fulmer has been key reason why we now have that for first time in quite a while. It's an understated need in order to not only be successful, but one of best programs!

Yes. He went and got his guy for sure. But, he was obviously trying to change w the times w that hire. The guy was a dang good coach too.
But, the culture here, staff meshing, and the personnel just did not fit. That offense never got it. Not close. I'm not sure what all the factors were. So that means blame is left at the feet of the guy w the big check. Two losing seasons in 4 was too much then.

Take Temps & Wear Masks; If everyone is that scared by September. .002 Death rate is hardly worthy of totally shutting the Country Down. Just keep the Nursing Home Residents away. That's where 60% of the Fatalities occurred. Let's see how the numbers look after all the Protesters factor in. They certainly weren't/aren't "Social Distancing".

At Houston’s United Memorial Medical Center ... according to Dr. Joseph Varon, chief medical officer: "Hydroxychloroquine works.... We have treated more than 100 patients in the hospital with HCQ and the patients have done well." Imagine That!

If Barnes played him, what did Kelly Harper do to get a $750k salary. That's more than Warlick made and triple what Harper made during her time as head coach at her previous jobs including NC State.

I know it's less than a million a year and all, but that was a ridiculous contact.

Truthfully, I don't think Fulmer gives a rat's patootie about anything but football. He caved to Barnes and Harper just to keep those sports from imploding.

I still think the long term hire should have been David Blackburn, but overall Fulmer has done a solid job, is light-years ahead of our last few ADs, and is no doubt a help to Pruitt in rebuilding the program.

I actually think that losing Cut hurt Fulmer in a far greater way than just losing an OC.

He in no way compares to Doug Dickey. He has a long way to go.

Can’t argue with his record - especially after these last 10 years. And, wouldn’t want anyone else leading Vols as AD!
Fulmer always seemed to take it on the chin when it was his fault. The man's two losing season were filled with close games where we were often hideously unlucky. I attach next to no blame to him

Dave Clausen was a good hire and would have proven to be if given more time. His record after his time at UT demonstrates that.

I actually think that losing Cut hurt Fulmer in a far greater way than just losing an OC.

I remember a broadcast from an 06 away game, the year Cut came back. Announcers reported that when Cut got back he was shocked to find there wasn’t a single WR that could bench press 300 lbs. He whipped that group into shape and it showed in 06 and 07. It’s hard to believe that Fulmer could let standards fall that much when Cut was gone, but 05 and 08 speak for themselves.

Dickey is credited with starting 3 Tennessee football traditions that endure today. He placed the iconic "Power T" decal on the sides of the Volunteers' helmets, had the Neyland Stadium end zones painted in an orange-and-white checkerboard pattern, and originated the Pride of the Southland marching band's "T" formation through which Volunteer players enter the field.

Dickey was also responsible for integrating the previously all-white Volunteers by recruiting running back Albert Davis, the first African-American offered a scholarship to play for the Vols but in our ignorance, the university did not admit Davis. Dickey recruited wide receiver Lester McClain, who was admitted and became the first black Volunteer football player.

Then he f***ed us. Left and supported his replacement Bill Battle who was a doofus coach who recruited "young Christian men of talent" including my idiot cousin who led the local "Jesus Forever" or wtfever the name was of the Youth Athletes for Christ. Couldn't tackle a dead squirrel.
