This is from TOS... Apparently Jason Crooms mother is a big poster over there and had this to say.

"There are a lot of good things coming and good people coming to visit.* Not just ex-VOLS.

A lot of what breaks the team spirits is not just losing a game, but he fans and fan boards.* They read the BS that's posted here from time to time and what you guys think about what's going hurts worse than a rival team* or media."

She also goes on to say that the team is coming together like a brotherhood because of it. What do you think about this? Is this an overreacting mother? Or do you think her son is telling his mom that this actually happens?

**By the way, I know the rules about pasting from other sites. I don't claim this as my own and no sensitive information that one would pay for is revealed, therefore this post does not in anyway look to undercut TOS.**

I agree with her, especially the bashing.

From many of the comments on this board, I would guess that many posters do not have children or much exposure into competitive venues (high level sports, running (not working for) a business, etc).

Children and competition teach about the negative aspects of being self-centered. Part of the definition of maturity is understanding what needs to be said, then doing such. Just because you can say something, does not mean you should.

I think any recruit and their respective mothers should know that no matter what school he attends, that when things go south its reasonable to expect fans in a free society to voice opinions they may not want to hear. The best advice is probably to stay off the boards when the wheels come off.

Im not sure if I am in line with the thinking that having absolutely no faith in this coaching staff equals people bashing the players......................

I know one thing, If I'm a player, I would stay far, far away from the Vol Message Boards!!

If players do visit the boards, they need to keep in mind that the thoughts and opinions displayed here do not reflect the vast majority of Vols fans.

If they don't want to read things that hurt, then they should play inspired football for 4 full quarters and actually beat somebody in the SEC that has a pulse. What about all the hurt and embarrassment they cause our fan base when they tank and quit and get steamrolled by our rivals every year?

I would prefer to see more civility, but really, what would the solution be?

I don't think the mods or administrators want to constrict the varied opinions that are driving their product. This is the world of instant communication with its unhindered, and occasionally offensive, opinion. It is, as they say, what it is.

This needs to happen. Become a brotherhood that refuses to quit on each other...that refuses to lose...and then we will have something.

This. It is the vocal minority who give the entire fan base a bad name. Hopefully the players and recruits realize this.

If the bolded part is true, isn't this taking a positive out of a negative situation? If true, then I think they are responding as one should respond to such things. If, that is, they can't just ignore it in the first place.

Palardy, bray and teague are the only players that get regularly bashed.

I cant really go along with that....really. I think the majority of the fanbase who are unhappy right now are of the opinion that Bray could flourish under the right coaching......that goes for all the players. JMO

You don't have to go along with it but the threads are there.

Win more football games. Losing is the disease that has plagued the Vols and their fans for the last decade.

Sounds like a Mom that always let her kid win at checkers. Give me a break, any team with the history and tradition of ours that is playing as uninspired and showing such awful attitudes would have a similar looking message board.

I love the Vols, but will never accept mediocrity. I heard someone say they bet people on here do not run a business, well I do and we employ over 80 people. If my people show the same degree of ineptitude that this staff has shown, I make changes. That is all I am saying, a change needs to be made at the top and it needs to come sooner rather than later before the inevitable happens. In this case the inevitable seems to me to be getting drummed the next 4 games in a row then mailing in the last few. With the lack of leadership on this team there is no indication this will not happen again...and again....and again.

First, I think it's a good thing for players to hear A LITTLE of what their fans think.
If these guys are truly coming together in a us vs. the world mentality, then great...as long as that "world" includes BAMA, UGA, and USCe...if that mental position includes the fans, it could be bad especially when a team gets behind and needs to feed off the fans in the stands to get the game back and that support doesn't exist (see Florida late 3rd quarter, 2012).
I remember when Arian Foster played here and FosterMom posted on VN quite frequently...she once said that Arian read a lot of the posts and actually fed off them and tried to use them as motivation...felt like he was letting his people down. He considered all the fans as part of his team.

So more blaming the fans.

So if I go through UT again and this time major in Theater Arts and can only get a job as a bar-tender or coffee shop artist... I can blame the school and the other students?

Why not just own up for the fact that this team is about as underwhelming as a team can get? It gets hit with Troubles and it just quits. It quit in 2010. It quit in 2011. It quit against Florida.

The fans rallied around this team and this team quit on itself, the school, the fans, the coaches, etc. Fans will come back but we've been burned a lot in the last 5 years. It will take something resembling proof... and not just an aberration or a fluke win.

Beat UGA and USC and you'll have the fans back.

Bash coaches all you want, bashing 18-22 year old kids who are out there trying to win for your enjoyment is stupid. Small people with fragile egos do that. If it hurts you so bad that you have to bash a kid, its time to step away. That's my opinion.

This sums it up perfectly ! Great post ! Make the inevitable necessary change sooner rather than later !!!

At least you admit we have a fair weather fan base.

The message boards after a loss are pathetic. Some of the stuff people post is so absurd i could see how it could scare off recruits, why come somewhere to play if you are just going to get absolutely bashed on monday for something like dropping a pass.

You will not find me bashing players, but more the fact they deserve better than what they have been given as leaders. There is nothing guaranteed to hurt recruiting than keeping this group of underachievers together. It is beyond me how far we have fallen as a program, and I am afraid it is about to get worse. With the total lack of leadership how do you think they are going to respond to getting drummed the next 4 weeks in a row? I would say worse than whatever pain the message boards caused.
