Merk commits to Uconn

Pretty smart call. Play 1 year as a standout at UConn, then hit the portal again and jump to a more desirable school and make a run at getting drafted.

sorry but this logic makes no sense. if you have 100% faith that you can win 10 or more games with GMac then it's absolute lunacy to spend all those millions on another QB with injury concerns.

I'm positive that the coaching staff "thought highly" of Merklinger too and now he is playing for one of the worst D1 football programs there is.
100%faith and feeling more comfortable with your guy than anyone else available is two different things. Leavitt was a better option than anyone available or on the roster right now.

Merk was never gonna play here, staff knew it, he knew it. How that alludes you I’m not sure.

lol you don't pay 7 million for a QB with serious injury concern for a single year if you have complete faith that you already have your starting QB. why would you pay that money if you are positive you can win with GMac. the answer, of course is that you don't pay all that money if you don't have to and you're completely rebuilding your defense.
You’re so confident in your stupidity, really impressive

For me, it's the way we pursued Leavitt, apparently offering a significant NIL, which could better be spent elsewhere according to almost everyone, and apparently still attempting to sway him after he intended to go to LSU.

That's not an indication of "hey, here's a top QB, let's just take a run at him and see what he says" but more of a "we need this guy in Knoxville so we're going to open the satchel and not give up on him."

If we had brought Leavitt in, showed him around, sat down and tried to hammer it out, then let him go on to decide, I'd agree we have a lot of confidence in our QB room already.

We didn't. We extended his stay, possibly to get a medical look at him.... possibly not, I don't know and we publicly said "he didn't tell us yet that he's really going to LSU" after that story broke. We wanted Leavitt....... BAD.

That doesn't point to a lot of confidence in our alternatives in the QB room, IMO.

True - Alpharetta product, but I think I recall UGA heavily recruiting Dobbs too.
It was one of Butch's huge recruiting wins.
Wasn’t it due to our Aerospace Engineering program? Butch just happened to be there, same with the legacy recruits.
