Mercy, this league is unrelenting…

Get a nice win while undermanned and you have to turn around and play a team that‘s won 6 of its last seven games and mauled a good Miss State team at The Hump today then on to OU and Kentucky.

The quality of the SEC is something else.
Mizzou about to get cooked like Texas Brisket.

The good news is that every SEC team has to go through the gauntlet. It evens out.

I think the toughest part is mostly behind us. (At Florida and Auburn, at Illinois) I just don’t think State has enough to win even at home. Im fine with losing to OU then winning at Rupp. If I had to choose one to drop.

Mizzou has been very good on the road. I trust we’ll beat them but wouldn’t take them lightly.

It is but its the sign of the times. There are literally hundreds of BB athletes coming out of the HS systems each year. Lotsa players for lota teams.

100%. South Carolina is the worst team in the league and even they’ve taken good teams down to the wire. It’s completely loaded.
I would’ve thought LSU was the worst, but I haven’t watched a ton of either yet.i know LSU has a better record but I think SC is better than them.

You’re only as good as your next game in this league. If you rest on your laurels plan on taking a L your next game.

This is the best any conference has ever been.
Yep, which makes what Auburn is doing more impressive. I didn’t realize they have 5 5th year seniors. That’s unbelievable in today’s game. No wonder they’re so good. I don’t think they’ll win it all but they’ll be a heavy favorite to do so. Duke won’t have the luxury of getting them at Cameron again. Some team will get hot at the right time in the tourney and beat them. Maybe us? We don’t even have to be “hot” to beat them, just efficient and play our usual defense. Thats true against any opponent for us. If we hit 30% from 3 against anyone and they’ll struggle to beat us.

The issue is, the refs have let some very physical play happen this year in the SEC. We get into the tournament and the first 2 rounds give us some refs who call the game tight and touchy.

It’s the only thing that will derail the SEC in the tournament

So true…and it’s from top to bottom. The Vols will either be extremely battle tested or extremely exhausted(or both) by SEC tournament time. I personally like our competition to be like this. I’ve been following SEC for many years and this is by far the strongest I can remember. And the coaching is exceptional as well!

I originally thought the winner of the conference may have up to five losses, but now I’ll be surprised if Auburn loses more than three games in SEC play.

Auburn is also 12-1 in Quad One games. That’s insane. The way it’s shaping up, they will be the overall #1 seed in the Dance.

No way they lose more than 3. I don’t think they lose more than 2 in the regular season. They have back to back road games at Bama and Vandy. Outside of that it’s hard to see where losses will come from. Say they split that pair and drop one more they shouldn’t and that’s it. Unless Bama beats them both games Auburn will win the SEC and likely pretty easily.

It’s crazy. The only competition for that overall 1 seems to be Duke. Auburn would have to have 2 more losses than Duke for Duke to be the overall 1 seed though as the resumes aren’t going to be close by season end. Even with 2 more losses, which won’t happen, it’s a coin flip.

The Selection Committee releases their in-season Top 16 seeds on Feb. 15. I expect us to be on the #2 line, but a lot could change over the next two weeks.

Honestly we need to have rotating officiating crews instead of dedicated crews for the conferences. As others have mentioned, getting a Big 10 or ACC crew in the big dance could dramatically alter how much physicality is allowed.

We will likely either be a 2 or a 3 when all is said and done. Outside shot at a 1 and a 4. We need to avoid additional home losses as it’s reasonable to expect more on the road. I think we finish 11-7 in conference play. I was thinking a 3 seed but if we only have 7 losses heading into the SEC tourney I don’t see how we would be that low. That should be worthy of a 2 given the ridiculousness that is the SEC.

Edit: Not to mention 2 road wins over Louisville and Illinois as well as a neutral win over Baylor are starting to really look good.
