Isn't part of TN. I can drive and get to Canada quicker than I can Memphis.

Johnson City, TN to Windsor, ON is 618 miles, driving.

Johnson City, TN to Memphis, TN is 498 miles.

Otherwise it's 480 miles to Cleveland, OH and a long ferry ride across Lake Erie.

I've heard this urban legend a few times and just don't see how it's true...

There is a spot in Canada that you can get to faster from the Tri-Cities than it would take for us to go to Memphis. That's at least what a teacher told me in high school.

Can you try time instead of mileage?

Well, you only have to take I-81 to I-40, and unless there is traffic in Knoxville or Nashville, it's fairly smooth sailing.

The trek to Windsor involves several cities and the obligatory border patrol stop before arriving in Windsor. The Canadians are normally way prickish to young Americans entering Canada. I used to go to Niagara Falls all the time when I lived up North.

We finally just started staying in Niagara Falls, NY and walking across the bridge to the cool stuff in Canada.

I don't give a flip about drive distances to Canada. If he/she wants to go to Canada because he/she loves their government paid medical, go for it. The fact he/she doesn't even know that Memphis is the biggest city in the state of Tennessee is about all you need to know regarding his/her knowledge.

Even the trolls are getting dumber.

Your high school teacher is an idiot. A quick look at a map shows that is impossible.

Oh I hate Canada as much as the next person...I am just proving a point...

Not calling anyone stupid, this is just one of the many moronic things I've heard that I've spent time trying to figure out how it could be true. If you can prove to me that one can get to Canada faster BY DRIVING, I will gladly say I'm wrong.

This is a prefect example of fiction masquerading as fact, emboldened by "educated" people with a preexisting bias, trying to further their point by teaching facts that aren't.

"as a crow flies" applies. Mountain City, TN to Canada is closer than Mountain City, TN to the Hernando DeSoto Bridge in Mempho-Daddy. Check my stats, Gooch.
