Memphis most experienced starter to miss UT game

True, but some people arent cut out to be team leaders. Wesley is very passive but very good when he plays hard. He was playing up to expectations the first few games this season and this injury is only a delay. Hes got a vast skill set and will only get better. However, I do believe this injury could cause him to return to school next year. He is in line to graduate and his draft position has been strictly based on potential. Injuries are one thing that will cause the position to drop. See Dejuan Blair

13ppg against the schedule they have played in not up to that kids potential.

He gives no effort on the defensive end of the floor. The way he has played defensively, Steven Pearl could take him to the rack.

It would not surprise me in the least to see Memphis become better as a team as a result of this.

Memphis will dominate their conference, but are too young and take too many bad shots to beat UT in Knoxville.

We shall see there mister smarty pants.

Look, living in Memphis, I love it when the Tigers are rolling. They are without a doubt, this city's team. And nothing is sweeter than the Vols beating the Tigers when they think they have the better team.

They are struggling. They have been completely underwhelming thus far in a schedule that doesn't have them playing a true road game until they play at UT. They have no identity, no leadership, and no go-to play-makers.

It's going to be a tough season unless Crawford and Barton pick it up and Coleman/Garcia start playing better.

Bottom line, Memphis was going to fall well below preseason expectations with or without Witherspoon. This just provides a temporary excuse.
Depends on whose expectations you are talking about. If you're talking about sane people who expect them to win C-USA, be around the fringe of the Top 25, and maybe win one game in the NCAA Tournament, I think they'll hit those marks. If you're referring to the people who thought they would be a Top 10 team and make a deep NCAA run, I think you're right.

The first part of your post is their ceiling. They have way too many question marks at this point. Winning C-USA will be an accomplishment that is far from the foregone conclusion of seasons past.

When you have 5 freshmen and 2 additional brand new faces in your rotation, there are going to be some growing pains. From what I have seen, Memphis plays best when Crawford, W. Barton, and Carmouche are on the floor together.

As was said by Digger on Tuesday, teams better get this team now, because come February and March after they have played together in this system, they will be a tough team to handle.

Always better to peak in Feb and March than Nov/Dec. No one remembers the Top 10 win in November when you get run in the 2nd round by a 10 seed.

Memphis forward Angel Garcia leaving team to play in Spain - ESPN

Another one bites the dust I think...... Any one know anything about it.

Angel was a good kid but not a contributor of noteworthy proportions. He is 6'11" but thinks he is a point guard. this will not hurt our team but does have the potential to improve it. The redshirt tag was lifted from freshman big man Hippolyte Tsafack. He is a beast on the boards but a liability on offense and not a great defender. Still, he has a chance to shine in his new role.

Update: Witherspoon has been cleared to play by physicians and contemplated suiting up for last nights game. I would expect him to be back for the Lipscomb game (12/30) at the latest. Dont ask my why he has recovered so fast but Im just relaying the info.

yeah, Wes was ready to go last night, but there is no need to rush him back...Lipscomb or Tennessee should be his first game back...it will be nice to have Witherspoon and DJ back healthy again.
