Memphis Defensively

One can only imagine how this would have turned out if Wiseman had played. As for Memphis defensively they had far more guards to run at Turner to wear him down. They were prepared game plan wise to take away the Vols strength which is guard play.
You don't have to imagine it, Dickie V wouldn't stop talking about it the whole game.

TN could have used 15 more fouls from Walker, Burns, and Kent yesterday. Memphis rarely shoots free throws well and TN's 1st 6 each had 2 fouls in the first minute or two of the 2nd half.

Make no mistake that Memphis D was really good (at least on that day). Tennessee’s O was really bad..........REALLY bad.

Tennessee’s D was really........REALLY good. Tennessee could have beaten a ton of teams on that day, even with a horrible offense......heck they had a chance to sink two foul shots and tie the game right at the end......who knows what would/could have happened after that.......but that opportunity was missed, via the missed foul shot.

Tennessee played a lot of minutes with a couple in foul trouble, they played a lot of those minutes with freshman, almost everyone’s O was off (on that day...way off), yet they still had the opportunity to win the game........I think that says a lot.

The loss sucks, but Tennessee’s D “can” keep them in ANY game, if their offense shows up they “should” win any game, if their O doesn’t show up they still “could” win any game.

Also James, and Pember looked darn good, and the freshman should really be helping out a lot, come March.

Bottom line is 2 or 3 other players have to grow up and grow up quickly and grow into leadership roles and play above their ability.

At times, Turner and Bowden have shown they can do this, but nowhere near consistently. But, certainly can't rely on 2 guys or expect 2 guys to carry the load.

There are definitely identity problems going on. Who knows? Sometimes we feel like this team could win upwards of 30 games and sometimes we feel like maybe they could miss the tournament.
You really have felt this team " could win 30 games"? A lot closer to missing the tourney than sniffing anything close to 30 wins this year. Will be very fortunate to win 20.

Just a horrible shooting day. As good as Pons has been this year, he had a bad game. The lid was on the basket, for both teams. Memphis was better talent wise. We need Uros under the basket and the offense of Vescovi.
Sounds like a European team, but I totally agree

I agree

He has to get there defensively first......and I think that is why he is not playing a ton of minutes right now.......as, if his “guarding D” was on point (right now) he could be 20 min per, right now (my opinion).

He certainly has the skills, his effort seems there, his rebounding seems there, his shot seems there, and his defense seems decent (but right now Tennessee has to rely on a “strong” D).

He is so long, that smaller, quicker guys can get him out of position........once his D catches up......look out, that length (and size at 6-10) could be a nightmare for opposing teams.....when Pember is at the 3 or 4.

Really needed Bone for this team. Turner is a 2 playing the 1. Turner and Bowden aren’t used to being “The Guy”. Bone is a floor general and always finds guys. Even if they aren’t technically open he will pass them open. It also doesn’t help that Turner and Bowden are very streaky shooters. The highs can be incredibly high and the lows can be just as disappointing the other way.
