The fan base has accepted it. Let's be honest......Fulmer's departure was way overdue, Dooley should never had been hired, Butch was never gonna pan out........and all the while, Vol fans just kept making excuses and towing the party line. Well, when you continue to accept mediocre hires, you get mediocre results. Why is everyone surprised? It's the same broken record playing over, and over, and over again. Keep hiring unproven coaches........keep pumping the sunshine.......keep doing what you always do..........and guess what? Nothing changes. Want to change the program? Demand that the administration hire the best possible coach(es). It's really simple. Too bad no one is listening.

Dumb post is dumb.

You can't blame "fans" for any of this any more than you can blame Alabama fans for their poor hires in the 90s and 00s or Florida fans for Ron Zook.

The fans were the ones who revolted against the Schiano hire. We were the ones that forced the administration to make changes. But ultimately, we still have little say-so in who's hired. It's the big money donors and the AD that make the calls. We pulled off a rare "fan veto", but that may be the only example of that in history.

We would have a lot more say if we boycott the program. Stop spending money on it. Make them wake the f up. Why bother truly changing when you make millions and millions off of sheep anyways?

I'd love to be mediocre and not get embarrassed by a Sunbelt team. This team looks worse than last year's bunch if that's possible. At least they could get lined up last year. As far as what the OP said it's a valid point. Tennessee has everything in place to be at the top, except the coach and QB to get them there. I have grown tired of the lower tier hires myself. We keep getting exactly what we'd expect from it.

Mediocre? 4-8 and 5-7 are not mediocre by definition, neither is losing to a 2-10 Sunbelt team.

Mediocrity is accepting 8-4.
This team is NOWHERE close to mediocrity.

“commonplaceness, lack of inspiration, passableness...”

No. We’re not mediocre. Abysmal fits it better.

Absurd. Dools and Butch were terrible hires and after a season and a half everyone knew it and they were destroyed on here routinely. Where have you been, OP?? All we have done 24/7 is beg for a competent coach. Get out of here with this blame the fans crap

Have you read volnation lately? Everyone is calling for a man's head after a big loss.

btw calling Vols mediocre is an insult to teams who truly are mediocre like Vandy and Missou.

What a blast from the past. The word itself, mediocrity, was damn near a bannable offense back in the day on gridscape. Vol12, Bob Kendall, mmcornelius (who knows a thing or two bout the subject, having BEEN in those trenches dedicating the last five years of her life to the noble cause of defending mediocrity and her flagship, H.M.S Warlick) would all be happy enough to define the term, link to Websters.com and cross reference it to the Vols football program, finding no correlation while simultaneously BANishing you to Outer MonVolia, just before you could hit that "post reply" button.

Yes sir, and the fact is, we WERE mediocre, blissfully mediocre, and sometimes even a win or two above gridscape' s ironclad adherence to the literal definition of the word. It was sublime, the best of times, the worst of times, orat the very least open to interpretation, and worthy of an argument.

Back before the suck sat in, before 4-8 And 5-7, before dooley, butch, hoke and pruitt, before last in the SEC went metatastic and set up shop in the bone marrow and brain.

Yes sir, we WERE mediocre. And those were the days.

Likely being the worst team in the SEC isn't mediocre. Maybe we'll work our way up to mediocre in a couplemore years

I'm torn. I know there are people who invest heavily and plan for years to attend games with friends and family. OTOH, part of me feels like anyone who shows up at Neyland for BYU and the Mocs is football fan version of an Uncle Tom.
