Meachem Named to Biletnikoff Award Watch List
Sophomore led Vols in receiving yards last season

Tennessee sophomore wide receiver Robert Meachem is one of 31 preseason candidates for the 2005 Fred Biletnikoff Award which is given annually to the top collegiate wide receiver.

Meachem played in all 13 games last season, hauling 25 passes for 459 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Vols in receiving yards and yards per catch (18.4). His four touchdowns tied for second on the team.

The Tulsa, Okla., native came into his own down the stretch as he made 16 receptions for 284 yards with two touchdowns in the last five games.

His top performance came with a 145-yard effort against Kentucky when he recorded his career-long reception of 53 yards.

He should lead the VOLS WR corps. But with that group he's (IMO) not going to get the receptions, yards, TD's that will impress voters number wise.
But still the same happy he was recognized. Another VOL on the watch lists :good:

You're right, he probably won't get the numbers for the same reasons our RBs typically don't. Too much talent to keep all the wealth with one guy. Doesn't really matter though, I think most guys would prefer championships to individual accolades... at least until they get into the NFL.

I saw this kid play in a hs game in oklahoma awhile back, he had a touchdown catch in the game. I recall tellin my wife then that he was a blue chipper.
