McIntyre reminds me of Peyton

GMac played well, but throwing for 86 yards does not make anyone look like Peyton Manning, unless we’re talking about GMac having a similar tall-and-too skinny build like Freshman Peyton.

Peyton threw for over 300 yards in his sleep.
Do you think PM threw for 300 yards a game when he was a Freshman? Played in 11 games. Threw for 1,141 yards. 11 TD’s. 6 Ints. 61.8% completion percentage. Let GMac play a couple of complete games and then compare his numbers to PM’s freshman numbers.

They do have a very similar build, but GMac is more athletic than the same aged PM. Arm strength appears comparable.

Peyton Manning went 7-14 for 75 yards with no interceptions or TD's in his first start against Washington, Oct 1st 1994. It was a run heavy game that relied on the defense.

Peyton was a true freshman, G-Mac has had a year in the system. G-Mac didn't actually start. It's not apples to apples, but you could do far worse as far as comparisons go.

Do you remember how Peyton looked his first few games as a starter?

Cut really dialed back the playbook

His passes were on one was dropped after the guy was drilled but just imagine two great backs I think the coaching staff severely underestimated his ability. Straight up. Field general.

Of course he did. But I’d still say let’s tap the breaks on the Manning comparisons for now.

With that said, nothing would make me happier than to see any Tennessee QB become the next Peyton Manning. Because we’d win a boatload of games.

“Field general” lol. Nobody underestimated anything. He came in and was serviceable - which was all he needed to do. Something was clearly going on with FB either physically or mentally (or both).

Mac did fine, but so far the comparison is only valid in that Manning and Mac were both underweight white people lol.

Prior to yesterday, how many times did CJH allow GMac to actually attempt a pass in ANY competition, nevermind SEC competition?

It was #25 Washington State. We won 10-9.

Yeah, of course. My point was that Peyton really didn't look any better. We all know the outcome of Peyton so of course it seems silly to compare.

But at this point........

True, but it was 86 yards in a half. In a game where the offense had no momentum. Zero. And an OL that had more holes in it than the SS Minnow.

GMac came in...played well...and led UT to a win. Would you rather have Option B?

It is what it is. Defense is rock-solid. Our OL is a patchwork. We now have a QB controversy. We're missing starters on both sides, with a roster that cannot afford to be missing starters.

And yet somehow, UT is 4-1.

Lots of work to do, and 7 more games to play before we render a final verdict on this team. But I'll take 4-1 over 3-2. And we were staring it right in the face before GMac came in.

Go Vols. Get better fast.

He reminds me of a guy who came into a game ready to show the defense that he has the ability and courage to throw the ball when the opportunity and situation dictates it.

I am reminded of one of the greatest QBs to grace the Hallowed Hill, Harrison Bailey. Destined for greatness. Harrison came in when Guarantano struggled (or just wanted to get away from Pruitt) and led the team to victory over Vanderbilt(after actually coming in the previous week in a loss to Florida).

I’m not saying he’s anything like Peyton, but GMac threw for the yards he was asked to throw for. Not much throwing going on when you rush for 200 in the second half. He did very well coming off the bench. Many are downplaying that for whatever reason. Heupel crawled into his shell when we went up 10 also. I’ll be interested to see the game-plan next week.
