i know this doesn't mean much of anything but an article in our paper today was about him and his little brother and said he was deciding if he should come back right now. idk how much credibility this has, but has anyone else heard info on this?

Yep, he's definitely considering turning pro. I'm sure his draft projections will impact his decision.

After the way he finished the season, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him go.

On utsports he said He would probably be back next year, but it was something a lot of juniors consider

Me either. If I had to guess, I would bet it is (slightly) more likely he's not back next year.

I suppose. I think if you look at the entire year, Marvin Mitchell was better at MLB last season. I don't think he was drafted until the sixth round. Hasn't Mayo been injured somewhat frequently? That might hurt his status.

When's the last time we had a starting linebacker not get injured in some shape or fashion??

I suppose Kevin Burnett and Kevin Simon were both drafted after injury-riddled college careers. Simon went pretty late. Burnett went in the second round, but he had a really great senior season. Also, I'd be willing to bet he had some of the best combine numbers. I'm not so sure Jerod Mayo can measure up in that department.

I think that Burnett was more of a complete LB. Mayo needs to grow just a tab, IMO, before he leaves. If he puts on 15 lbs of muscle he will excel at the next level and start I believe in 1 or 2 seasons.

I think he stays. The Draft is going to be deep in LBs this year and I dont think he would go higher than mid second round.

I guess it depends on how bad he wants the money.

Mitchell had a great year but I think Mayo ends up a much better player.

More like...after seeing his speed on that interception return, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him go.

Mayo is the real deal holyfield. I had a hunch two years ago that we might be having this conversation.

That being said, I still think there is a chance he stays. A slim chance.

I think Mayo turns pro. He had a great last half of the season and he is in his 4th year at UT. I think he'll make the bad decision and declare.

Like who? Can you name two LB's on our roster that are as good as Mayo? I can't.

I think Ellix Wilson could step in and be a very good LB. I obviously wouldnt say he is as good as Mayo because he hasnt played a full season as the starting MLB but i would say Ellix is as good as Mayo was at the end of 06.

Id also like to see if Myers-White can play LB and if Dorian Davis will live up to the potential he had coming out of Iowa or if he will be a special teamer for life.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't Dorian Davis a 2-star guy? I don't ever remember him being the paradigm of potential.

Which begs the arguement if it's worth the risk for him to stay another year and probably be on of the top 3 LB's in the nation next year. If he is projected 2nd round this year, he's a shoe-in for the 1st next year and depending on his play in '08, high first round. The $$$ difference between mid-2nd round and mid to high 1st round is a crap load more than I'll see in my lifetime.
