Maybe we need to face some facts.

It was a hypothetical. The point is you don't hire someone when there's terrible rumors going around about that person, because they may be true. I imagine rumors had swirled about Sandusky for years.

So the other guy saying we should just ignore hearsay is simply stupid

Try facts instead of picking the narrative that best suits your personal lens.

Facts are there is one instance where McQuerey was told by another assistant Schiano said he saw something. This is after numerous and exhaustive investigations (by professionals) never led to any evidence suggesting Schiano was involved in any way.

Everyone else in the coaching community speaks highly of him. Control freak? likely. Good coach? Debatable but did well with Rutgers. Right for UT? I don't think so.

Bottom line is it is fine not to want him as a coach but completely out of line to accuse him of a crime or cover-up based on arm chair speculation.

Even speculation that you were involved in the cover up of child rape is plenty of reason not to hire you.

And the main guy in the media I've seen pushing this pro Schiano narrative that so many of you are repeating is a guy named Josh Ziegler. At first he makes himself seem like an expert on the Penn St situation. After all, he made a documentary about it. Seems like a legit source, until you see the interview where he claims Sandusky never touched any children.

Firing an underperforming coach is the easy part. Replacing him with someone better....not so easy. Especially with a toxic part of the fanbase with such good internet access.

The fan base would have been far less toxic had Currie not blindsided them with his friend Schiano after serving up platitudes such as integrity and doing things the right way.

Neither of those traits comes to mind when reading anything about Schiano as a head coach.

Currie could have also stymied the Gruden rumors right off the bat which is the same thing he should be doing with the Kiffin rumors currently.

It's pretty apparent Currie went as far as he could hoping Jones would eek out a bowl appearance this year so he wouldn't have to make the decision to fire him.

Instead of being prepared as most of these ADs are with some definitive plans, he has been fumbling around and spinning his wheels after his friend Schiano got ran out of town before he could even show up.

People that blame the fans aren’t fans.

I will never accept that it’s our fault if we get yet another garbage coach. I will however stop buying tickets.

It's probably a good thing to occasionally cull the fan base of those with lollipop and rainbows expectations. See ya down the road when the hard work is done.

This isn't going to be received well. Most of us don't want to hear it, much less believe it. If we really take that long, hard look in the mirror, though, deep down we'll know it's the truth.

Tennessee is tarnished and we, the fans, are PART of the problem.

We demanded that a Hall of Fame coach with 100 more wins than losses, multiple SEC championship and a national title be fired. We ran a guy out of town who pulled us out of the gutter, led us to back to back 9 win seasons and three straight bowl wins. We rioted to block the hire of a coach who built a program from basically nothing, taking it to multiple bowl wins.

Of course Dave Doeren is the best we can get now. No big name coach wants to come near this job. Would you want to bring yourself and your family into that kind of environment? I sure as hell wouldn't. Not when there are other places offering similar jobs without that toxicity.

Tennessee is tarnished. It's toxic. The athletic department shares some blame. The boosters share some blame. We, the fans, have to accept our share of it too.

The only reason the nation knows about the fans of UT is because our boosters are idiots and our university is cheap as *****. The fans are the only ones that remember that we used to be good at football.

Our top choice for head coach was a defunct head coach hiding out as a DC who we tried to pay 4.5 million to.

You tell me if Alabama fans would have been happy if their AD brought them that pile of crap.

And don't give me this BS that Tennessee can't be as good as Bama.

I for one agree with post! But am rational and accoutable. Wear Big Boy pants everyday. There is not a college team out there no matter what Division that does not want to win every game and modestly win a natty every few years. When Fulmer was COACH i remember many 9 win seasons but if we lost to florida I would complain and a friend of mine would laugh and say do you how many teams would love to have 8 to 10 wins a year? We love our team and there has been alot of disappointment over the years. There is a down side to social media as well. Instant reaction there is no time for reflection. I for one believe the ROCK is for inspiration for welcoming new recruits etc. Not for defaming a coach publicly simply because he wasnt the caliber we had hoped for and were promised. Our University approached him! He did nothing wrong except say yes to an offer to become our Coach.

The top choice will be announced as our new coach this weekend. It was a very short search.

Okay, I'll admit it. This fiasco is all my fault.

Whew! It felt good to get that off my chest. Now maybe I'll be able to sleep at night.

The only two things consistent in the last 15 yrs have been bad seasons and the fans keep coming back.
