Maybe this is why we are "unrealistic" as fans...

People want to bring up "historical" numbers. Here's one for ya

UT: College Football's Winningest Program Last 75 Years - University of Tennessee Official Athletic Site

It wasn't just the 90's. 75 freaking years is a pretty good chunk of time.

Maybe this is why some fans aren't ok with 8-4.

I'm not ok with this season either bit history doesn't help your case. 8-4 is a tick better than our historical .64 winning %

Fuller's 74% was an aberration, not the norm.

Majors was 58℅, Dickey 64%

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the 90s numbers again.

I have not seen a single post where any poster has stated they are happy with 8-4. Not a single post.

I am if it lands them a Florida bowl.

How about we build a program that can contend for championships regardless of what the history is or is not.

Historically it's .683%, not .64%

And this season was 66.6%. Statistically that's not below the historical average.

Correct. Since 2004 however, our winning percentage is only .549% (52nd in the country and 10th in the SEC) which caused our overall winning percentage to drop over 2 points and nearly 3 (just over 70% to 68%).

So the last 12 years has had a pretty big impact on the program "historically."

And BJ is at 58% at Tennessee. So if you're ok with being as good as we have been since 2004, then we're fine.

So what are we focusing on here? The historical average? Or the historical average before 2004? Either way, Butch was near the historical average in a season which everyone thinks the sky is falling.

Butch is still generally trending upwards. Do a linear regression if you don't believe me..

In terms of history, Tennessee won:

2 SEC championships in the '30s
2 in the '40s
2 in the '50s
2 in the '60s
2 in the '80s
3 in the '90s

And 0 since 1999. This is the longest Tennessee has EVER gone without winning the SEC. Does anyone think Butch has a shot at doing it? If not, what the hell is he still doing here?

For the first point. People are disappointed (and rightfully so) with the season. But it doesn't leave much to look forward to.

Butch has peaked here. I don't believe (he sure as hell hasn't shown any reason to think) he'll get any better.

Dickey was actually at 76% if you take out his first year, which was a rebuilding year.

Fulmer was not an aberration. Majors underperformed and wouldn't have lasted as long as he did if he hadn't been a UT legend.

It's maybe not so much 8-4 as it is how we got here. Barely beating teams we should easily out talent and then adding loses to SC and Vandy. Not to mention consistantly very bad game decisions and likely the worst defensive showing in the history of the school.
Not happy with 8-4 but, oddly last year was more digestible because there was "hope" for the future. Now, I'm not seeing it.

I'll definitely agree with you on Majors

Understood. Also, your first point had to do with being one of the winningest programs in CFB. Well guess what, we're also top 10 in games played. And teams like MI, Texas, Nebraska, OSU, Notre Dame, Bama, and OU have us crushed in winning percentage.
