Maybe scoop up another Texas coach?

If Texas goes after Meyer, I’d take Tom Herman as quickly as any other name we are discussing.

Why? Texas is one of the easiest states to recruit in and it’s infinitely easier to win in that conference. What has he done in his time there that makes you think “that’s our guy”?

People are quick to make CRB connections but forget the key piece. CRB has coached at a top tier level and was let go for getting too comfortable. Tom Herman is getting let go because he’s been mediocre to bad since day 1 there.

We need to upgrade our head coaching position. Herman won at a mid major and at least beat Georgia and Oklahoma. If he’s a competent coach, he’s already better than the guys weve had of late.

I’d rather have a no name up and comer than a failed put retread thats claim to fame was being good at a mid major school.. My preference anyway.

Not me. Even if success is a string of 8-4 seasons , we aren’t even breaking .500 most years. Then when that’s the new baseline, upgrade again.

We’ve tried this approach in football without success. We’ve also tried in basketball, where we got one Bruce Pearl and not much else. Just my opinion.

The first one we got was luck of timing and being in the right spot at the right time...AND he was also a HOF coach. Though many didn't like how Barnes played for a raise, but not many are concerned about that now. Hiring someone who's "been there done that" will cost alot, but we've seen can pay off...don't think Herman falls in that bucket.

I thought the culture was on the uptick for Pruitt, w/ 8 win streak, but we found that's not the case. To use a NY Giants reference, they're 5-7, but 5-2 in last seven games and playing solid football...you can see improvement and people buying in. We've not seen that from our group this year. We've got 2 more games. Personally, I'd start JT, who seems to be the only QB right now who doesn't look like a deer in headlights behind center...and see if we can end the season on a strong note. If they mail it in, it's gonna be another long off season.

For all the love Texas high school football gets from the media at large truth be told that state does not produce cream of the crop collegiate players like Florida and Georgia does. Texas has numbers as in quantity but Florida and Georgia have quantity and quality.

Going after a Texas coach isn’t a bad idea - you just have the wrong coach in mind. If Tennessee wants to get rid of Pruitt, it needs to hire a proven winner at head coach that has peaked at his current location. Gary Patterson is exactly that. He could be our football Barnes. Sure, it isn’t sexy but this guy year in and year out puts forward a great product at a school that can’t touch our level of resources. We should have hired him instead of Kiffin the first time we had the chance and we could have saved ourselves 12 years of irrelevance. It’s not too late!
