Some of you "fans" can understand how basketball actually works.

Every team loses a few games to worse teams regular season. Do you think the Heat are concerned they lost 7 of 11? No. They know the post season counts. I and a few knowledgeable posters told you don't panic. We were on track for the tourney and that would meet expectations. We were not ranked. Yes we had a couple of bad games but that happens in basketball. You don't start petitions to hire another coach or say a coach should be fired mid season with a winning record and on pace for the tourney. Now we made it and the players are doing what coach has been preaching all along. I hope some of you better understand now, how bball works. Maybe you will wait until we are eliminated from post season contention or at least have a losing record before calling for the head of a coach who has improved and met expectations every year.

to play devil's advocate here, this team almost missed the tournament.

the emotional pendulum has swung too hard back in the opposite direction

Hate to say it but without the petition we'd be talking about the offseason...I think it lit a fire under the team.

when the op teaches me something about how basketball works, shoot me in my bad leg. Please.

Especially when he's comparing a damn pro team with multiple championships and top 50 nba players to a college coach who was one loss from being fired for not making a tournament of 68 teams.

Same poster said he didn't know Stokes could run the floor, accept a pass and finish a dunk ahead of a big man, though he has done it a dozen or so times this year. Do us a favor and teach us things that you know about. Like maybe softball or cornhole.

Knowledgable? Laughable.

We were always on pace pretty much. Its ok to be critical but how many said even with the projections we wouldn't make it or we would lose our last ten etc? Or that Martin should be fired getting off the plane , we would never win a game if we made it, they hope he is fired and things like that? Basketball is about making the post season. People were mad an un ranked team didn't go 27-5.

This fan base gets way too extreme. Either super hot, or really cold. Never in the middle. Let's just see what happens. "WE WANT CUONZO OUT" *5 days later* "LETS GIVE HIM A 4 YEAR EXTENSION, BEST COACH EVER!" Lets just chill, you're not a bad fan if you have doubts, and you're not a bad fan if your hopelessly optimistic. But we as fans should try to find a happy medium together and not let this fan base go too extreme in either direction.

With that in mind, big game friday. Let's just get hypey for that game. We are reeking havoc in this tourney. Michigan... you're next!

This thread is ridiculous on the complete opposite end of the stupid spectrum from BOP's thread. If we merge them, will they cancel out and disappear?

That wasn't me. Check your facts. and I'm sure I know more about bball than 90% of the board. I actually played at a fairly high level.

You on the other hand show your lack of understanding with most post.

My point is still true. You don't try to fire a coach on pace for the tourney. You kept saying Martin had underachieved when he hadn't.

I think I would've been considered one of the pre tournament cuonzo supporters.. But I agree that people are over correcting. They were too upset with him mid season, now building him up too much.

I guess this way, people have built him up so much it'll raise the yearly expectations and make it easier for them to want to fire him again in a few years.

Wrong. We actually would not have even been in the first round if not for Dayton. Its not like we were the last team in.

Like I said if he didn't make it and was fired, ok. But to be calling for him to be fired when we were still projected in the tourney is stupid.

College basketball is not about winning every regular season game.

Are people complaining about our Elite Eight year because we lost to USC? No. It doesn't matter.

Coming from the guy who argued for days about how average the talent was on this team.

I never said average. Its ok. Not top 15 like people kept saying. We are playing and being coached well. I would say Kansas has more talent and Duke has more talent. We went farther than both. Basketball isn't about just talent. We still didn't have a roster that should only lose 6 or 7 games. We have a few great players and a lot who are average. We also lost our top recruit and reserve. I think we finished about right. The crazy ones thought we should blow out everyone we were not even ranked.

It prolly swung too far to begin with.

I think there are still some questions but he has earned the right to see if he can answer more of them next year.

A month ago he hadn't done that.

Eh, why bother? Though I never signed the petition, I was certainly frustrated with this team.

If the OP was truly able to predict our current run after our second loss to TA&M, then my hats are off to him.

On another note, our fanbase is certainly fickle. We love our team no matter what, but heads will be called for after our first loss next year on the court or on the field.

Collectively, we exagerate the ups, as well as the downs, though I sure do like the "ups" much more :)

Really? When we were 16-11 we were on track for the tournament. Whatever........

According to which service you looked at we were. And even if we were one game out the season wasn't over. You don't give up on the team while they are fighting for a post season berth. That is what irritated me. People were mad we had lost to some teams we "had more talent" than. Every team except WSU did this year. It happens. But that is my point. Too many people think this is like fball and we should beat every lower team. Not in bball. You can miss free throws or just have an off night shooting. I think we had some of those but the "fans" didn't understand those games weren't all on Martin.
