The comments below the previously posted article got me thinking. Are there really people out there who think General Neyland's Game Maxim's should be done away with? Apparently.

There are people on there that think we should do away with our checkerboard end zones....really?!?!?

IMO, the pagentry of the Vol Walk, Smokey, The Checkerboards, running through the T, the Vol Navy, the Volunteer guy with his gun, whiskey bottles left empty under the seats, Rocky Top, and the gone but not forgotten Tennessee Walking horse are some of the things that MAKE fall Saturdays......Football Time in Tennessee.

What is your opinion of traditions you think we should take away if any?

Any traditions you think we should bring back or add?

I think it might be cool if the Volunteer shot his musket in the sky and a huge orange firework went off. Just thinking as I type, lol.

as a kid who grew up ten minutes from his birthplace, let's make sure we understand that the "Volunteer Guy" is Davey Crockett.

We absolutely should not do away with the checkerboard end zones. UT is know throughout the country for their checkerboard end zones.

"David"...the first person to ever call him Davey was Walt Disney...(not trying to be an ass)

I want to bring back the tradition of having the biggest stadium, lets build an upper-upper level (i know not a good idea, but screw penn state and michigan!)

Plus I'm 90% sure it's Davy not Davey but regardless you knew who I was talking about, lol. I have the record at home.........now I'm telling my age.

they've called him Davey, Davy, whatever you want, as long as I've been around Jonesborough. Either way, it's not just "the Volunteer guy with his gun"

I for one think the Maxims being recited has lost its luster.

I've said this many times before on here. I would much rather practice them on the field on Saturday's rather than half ass recite them before taking the field to appease the old school faction.

Remember this, the man that put two traditions into Tennessee had zero affiliation with the school before he put them in. I have no problem with Kiffin doing his own thing.

I went to an away game at Auburn a few years ago and they had this video on the big screen of a tiger running and then turning and jumping out of the big screen. . .I always thought it would be cool to have a video on the screen of a blue tick howling and running through some mist filled woods, followed closely by a pack of blue ticks and volunteers with muskets, then one of the volunteers turns and points the musket straight at the camea and fires, with the camera closes in on the bullet just before the crowd hears a huge explosion and vol fireworks. . .or something like that :) lol

the problem with something like that is it takes away from the band playing right up until the time they break the T and the team runs out, but they could do something like that as an added bonus for one or two nationally televised night games. . .

Kiffin stated he will embrace the traditions that UT has, but stressed tradition #1 to embrace is winning.

They phased out the Davy Crockett logo because he had a gun. I don't think they'll be doing this anytime soon.

Those are a must keep tradition, other schools call the guy who paints the endzone just to get the process of how to do it. And it just looks amazing from any angle.

If anything, we should bring more traditions back. I have to think there is a way we could still incorporate the TN walking horse. If not in the stadium, then at least outside.

The walking horse is simply bad a$$ in my opinion. I completely agree with bringing him back.

I know a lot of old timers around here won't like this one bit, but some hell raising music at the right times would be nice. I'm not trying to turn this into a "Rap Music at a football Game" thread, because rap music needs to stay with basketball.

I just think a little ass kicking rock music would fire some people up that aren't down with football as much as we may be.

Basically, I'm all about making Neyland one of the most ruckus, hell raising, loudest, in your face, stadiums in the US.

The band jamming out "Living on a Prayer" between TV commercial breaks just isn't doing it.

I read the article earlier and read as many of the quotes as I could stomach, but what I gathered about the maxims and traditions was all in sarcasm. The 3 or 4 guys talking about doing away with the traditions are still hoping that Phil comes back. In other words, Lane has changed everything else, why not just change everything.

Interesting that Dan Brooks was mentioned in an administrative role at the end of that article. Does anybody know anything about Caldwell? Is he the last to not have a job?
